How many is too many?

Okay so I know (I think I do) that we have to work within a window of 40mb when making games. So just to be sure I want to make all of my games at 20mb or under... hopeful thinking.

But my question is how many actors in general can we have in our game before we have "too" many and kill performance.

I'm pretty sure I can complete my game with 30 total actors, each scene have 10-17 actors. (level select having 30)

    it depends on what kind of device you have

    Well I want to make it committable for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Any many generations as possible.

    Thanks I was only asking because its easier plan ahead for a project when you have an idea of what your building, instead of building it, testing it, and then waiting for loading times. :P

    if you get around 80+ actors in a scene you will likely run into issues on a 2ng gen device.

    there is no magically number though as what affects it is how many of your actors are un moveable, how many rules are in each actor. also actor sizes will affect things. But I would never plan to go over 100 as that will likely destroy your game.

    Wow ok, that puts things into perspective thanks - having no access to testing i was worried even 15 actors was too much!

    I remember that it's said in the FAQ that using behavior also increase your game size especially the timer behavior. They suggest that if we could use less behavior and still got the same result then try not to use too many behavior.
