My Guess/Wish for Project Masala

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Here is my fantasy wish. A GS app like viewer (GS Player) but not for developers but players so it just plays games. Use apples' subscription service to charge monthly fees. Developers would submit games to the accelerator program (only quality games accepted). Then users could download as many games as they want to use online or offline with the GS player. Once subscription ends games self destruct.don't work without renewal. Could work in automatic renewal to make it easy for users. Developers pool of money from the subscriptions say 75% of what apples does not take either distributed to developers pro-rata per number of games accepted into program or distribute based on actual downloads. Would reduce developer cut per game, but would also be automatic built in marketing and if onyly quality games are available might get really popular so in the long run could make more money.

FYI... What a great idea for GS to announce a project with no description of what it might be. They knew we would speculate. They thus get free brainstorming for additional project that could make them a lot of money and from people who are users and likely gamers so a perfect focus group. That was pure genious.

If they use it and it was not already in the works, hopefully they might give me a free pro subscription when my renewal comes around. LOL.

At first, I was going to suggest that this thread be merged...
    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=21333 ...with that one.

But, the idea is good... good enough for its own thread. Although, you don't need GameSalad to make it happen. You can do it yourself. I have an idea that's similar to this, but without subscriptions. (I haven't done it yet because I'm not sure who I can really trust to team up with around here.) If you need subscriptions, perhaps that will be included when in-app purchases are available in GameSalad.

So... to sum up... Project Merger + lots of projects + subscription model

I suspect that GameSalad is looking at building their own online arcade... something like kongregate or miniclip. Just look at the way this site is set up. It has the beginnings of social networking — centered around game playing.

As much as your shameless plugging annoys me, I'm always up for a good project :)

Drop me an email at info@instantmashgames.com about the project.

Thanks and you are right. You would not need GS to do it, technically. But the key would be getting enough developers to submit enough good and great games to make it enticing to a user, especially since stand alone games are so cheap.. GS has the source of potential developers, I do not. Of course, the best way to do it would to get an Angry Birds and a few other very popular games to join in. But I doubt they would agree and even if they did that would mean tons of money in licensing fees because they would probably still sell the games as a standalone. Kinda like Netflix.
