Has anyone tried to make an rpg with gamesalad yet? Or anything just as complex...

    I haven't seen any yet, but now that GS supports saving and loading I'm (most likely) going to use it for a big ambitious RPG-like game I'm working on: http://www.insurgentgames.com/blog/diary-of-a-new-iphone-game/ (I'm working on a smaller GS project first I decided, to get more used to it before tackling the big one)

    I don't think RPGs were really possible before 0.7.0 because it's not practical to write a large story-based game and deal with creating a character and leveling up, etc, when you have to start over each time you open the game. I expect more bigger games will be coming out of GS now.

    I'm currently in the process (about 50% done) of creating an RPG/TD Hybrid =)

    I plan to start a rpg tommarrow. All that you can know right now is that it's about bunnies.

    I'm thinking of a space RPG of sorts.

    Because bunnies, fairies and unicorns aren't my thang ;)

    I was looking to create an RPG on a pretty large scale. With wizards and warriors and stuff. :) All fantasy which is what I love. The only thing I think I will fail at is the story line.

    @kahenejosh:

    May I recommend having a look at this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Propp

    I actually wrote an essay for my MA comparing Zelda to Propp's Morphology of the Folktale!

    It might give you a good start for narrative structure perhaps?

    Hope that helps,

    QS :)

    Aha! Thanks QuantumSheep. You wouldn't believe it though, at both GCSE Media Studies and A Level Film Studies I was taught about Propp's theory. Sparked a few memories this, but yep I was on a very simple level just going to follow his theory.

    Everything is good and happy.
    Then an evil force of some kind disrupts peace.
    Then a hero tries to defeat the enemy.
    Peace is returned.

    Very simple indeed but yep thanks for that, I will look a little more into it. Next thing is graphics haha. Not so good at that either.

    Or follow my theory and BE that evil force that sweeps the world. Mwuahaha.

    @Kahanejosh

    No worries, glad to help. To be fair, it's been 15 years since I last read the actual book - hopefully you'll get enough from the wiki page these days ;)

    As to graphics - I have to thank/scold the person that introduced me to Daz 3D on these forums. Thank them because I can now make graphics that don't make me cringe. Scold them because it's cost me a small fortune ;)

    Try it out - I reckon it'll help a lot!

    Cheers,

    QS :)

    So for those of you who are starting an RPG anyone figured out how to get an inventory system working?

    Without arrays its killing me lol

    I would just say make integer attributes for each possible inventory item, and keep track of how many in those attributes. When you hit a save point, save each of those attributes to their own key.
