Hi everyone,

I'm new to GameSalad, and about to make my final project for my exams an iPad game. I felt over GameSalad as a brilliant engine for creating games, however my one concern is, that every game I can find made with GameSalad is flat.

What I wanna do with my game is to create a fun RTS similar to Settlers HD on the iPad in the graphics, with 3d perspective. Is this possible with GameSalad?

I'm sorry if this have been asked previously on the forums, but I havn't been able to find any related posts.

Thanks in advance

You can't do realtime 3D. What you can do, however, is with pre-rendered 3D.

From a quick look at youtube Settlers HD is an isometric game. Isometric are not full 3d but a 2d projection at a fixed angle. You can do isometric in GS, but managing what is in front of what is a problem. If you want and actor to go behind a building and then walk around and be in front of it, you have to do some pretty nifty stuff flipping visibility of actors, or use collision boxes to stop actors from going where you don't want them to.

Even in pro design of isometrics they have to deal with the same problems but have tools to deal with this. In the past they used lots of tricks to avoid it though, and careful design can help. The higher the angle, the easier it is, until you get a top down... and then it is really much easier.

Have a google on isometric games design and you will find lots of info.

    hope that helps

p.s. Undersky is right, you can do pre rendered images. Lots of isometrics do, but some mix pre-rendered with realtime 3d sprite and this is not possible in GS.
