Change attribute : image to a filename - works in creator, not in viewer

Hey guys.
I remember reading the other day (can't find the post now but I think it was TShirt who said) about using a change att, rather than a change image helps with loading times or something.
aaaanyways.
So rather than
-When x = whatever
--change image to a.png from the drop down
but
-When x - whatever
--change attribue "image" to (a.png) < typed in
This works fine when I preview in the creator, but testing using the viewer, when a=whatever, the thing I am changing the image on, turns to a while square.
Am I being an idiot? or is this a bug?

Pretty sure I didn't drag to a scene actor. Have deffo dragged to a prototype tho with that actor.
Just out of interest. What was the reasoning behind using change attribute rather then change image in the thread the other day, if you can remember?
(I think it was a fairly big thread about optimising scene load times)
Sparks.
