Gamesalad creator suggestions to improve productivity!!
Hey guys,
Thought I'd post some suggestions for the Gamesalad creator. I think these smallish features could greatly improve our productivity!
Feel free to add your own suggestions too.
When moving objects around in the scene editor allow user to "shift" then arrow to move in 10px blocks (like Photoshop).
Make it easier to click and drag objects around. At the moment when objects are quite small there resize handles get in the way when you want to drag them around. A possible fix for this would be to put the transform handles on the outside of an object.
Add in simple block code rule… it could be in the overlap, touch bit. At the moment i just make the rule: keypress ` to block the code.
Allow variables in the load/save attribute - this would save so much time. We could make one save rule and just change one variable in each scene instead of having to retype everything.
When you have an object and it has a collide rule. Then you set a variable to stop that collide rule - if the actor that its affecting is actually colliding at the time it is told "not to collide" you must first move off the object and then back… then the collide wont work. My workaround for this is to destroy the actor and re-spawn one without the collide but its quite a hassle.
Allow multiple selections in the layer inspector. So you don't have to drag objects one by one.
When you drag on object onto the stage it would be nice to make it so its placed directly above the object thats currently selected instead of going straight to the top - this would save a lot of time re-organising layers.
When dragging an object it would be nice if when u hit shift it locks you into an axis - like in Photoshop. This makes it easier to place something 200px to the right quickly whilst keeping the same Y value.
When you expand a rule to see everything - sometimes you don't realise there's rules in the "otherwise" bit - it would be good if they were marked in some way.
Be able to click on an actor in the scene editor and ctr c/ctr v to quickly copy & paste it.
When previewing your game on iphone - if its a large game it can take quite a while to load… even if you just want to preview one level. Maybe via checkboxes you could allow the user to just preview certain scenes so you don't have to wait for the whole app to load.
Hope those are helpful,
Cheers,
Mark

When characters are placed into a new scene. They should have the same layer properties as the old scene to save u dragging them down.
The up and down arrow in certain places should scroll so it's easier to move the layers and actor rules.
In rule image editor.
like mirror animation, to save individually Mirroring each image.
Same with rotating individual frames. A crop option would be nice. We do forget some times.
Thanks
