edited November -1 in Announce Your Game!
So we're in the last 2 or 3 weeks before our game is finished and can be submitted. Here's a couple early screen shots. There are more images and info on the new site: www.honeytribestudios.com. Have a look and see what you think. Sign up with the newsletter and we can tell you the day the game is on itunes.

Any feedback welcome and I'll post a video showing gameplay in a few days.

(and here it is! QS :D)

I agree the artwork had a neat style. Since you did ask, I would only suggest a little definition between the foreground actors and the background. The foreground art has the slight outlining and the background doesn't, which give a nice distinction, but maybe a little more might be nice and enhance a faux 3d effect.

Here is a quick mockup with a little drop shadowing.

Just a thought. Best of luck with this game!

Nice work Shaz. If its not finished yet, i would consider waiting a bit longer as GS next release (within 1st two weeks of May) will support GameCenter leaderboards. This looks like a game that should take advantage of that.
  • HoneyTribeStudiosHoneyTribeStudios Member Posts: 1,792
Yeah, I was thinking to wait for leaderboards. Actually I already clicked the option for it in itunes connect when i reserved the game name! Although I haven't got GS pro yet. Guess I'll have to pretty soon...

Hi. It looks very nice. I just wondered are the 'danger' events in the game synchronised to happen in time to the music. Or do you actually change the music mid play in which case are you stopping and starting music loops or layering them on top of each other. How would you sync them perfectly? Thanks.
  • HoneyTribeStudiosHoneyTribeStudios Member Posts: 1,792
Yeah, everything is set to trigger at the same tempo. I import the audio as sounds rather than music (except for the forest ambience in the background). And then each sound has a list of conditions before it will play. One of those is a reference to the game time. So using modulo, i can make sure that the sounds only start playing on the beat.

Gotta pick the right tempo though. 120 bpm would be the easiest as you can trigger sounds when game time is at intervals of 1.0, 0.5 or 0.25 seconds.

Thanks. Great to know how you did that.

Good luck with the game when released!

No worries - keep in mind that arm 6 devices won't be reliable if using the above method. i.e sometimes the sounds will trigger slightly late. Which does completely kill the music. I've decided to go with only arm 7 for this game.

That looks fantastic! Hope it's successful for you!

Cheers Jeffery. Well I hope so too!... but having doubts. Not had much interest from this forum or touch arcade either. Which might not be a good sign. Hmmmm. Will just have to keep plugging away at the marketing I guess.
  • JeffreyShimaneJeffreyShimane Member Posts: 372
The dynamic music works really well! I was thinking of doing that on my app but I never could figure it out.
  • HoneyTribeStudiosHoneyTribeStudios Member Posts: 1,792
Using modulo is very useful. With it you can fade the volume of the sounds up or down depending on what's going on. So in this game the bird's drum theme gets louder as it gets closer to your character. A simple effect but it works well to add to the sense of danger/pursuit.

Could also just use a timer (every 0.05 sec change volume attribute to... whatever) but I've tried to avoid using them for performance optimisation.

Made another video - no narration this time. Constructive criticism welcome. Let me know what you think!

Also made a facebook page for the game so please click 'like' on it. Will be happy to do the same if you have a facebook page for your game.

Been on the pre release marketing for a few days. Things not going quite as smoothly as I'd hoped. I'm sure many can relate. Only a few websites picked up my press releases so far.

Almost no one seems to want to comment on my touch arcade thread: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=93286

(the thread in the developers section is a bit more alive)

I know its only early days but I was thinking the art and music might get a bit more interest. I'm thinking I need some much better trailers and promo pics? Communication isn't my strong point though!

Does anyone have good advice for how to attract press attention?
  • HoneyTribeStudiosHoneyTribeStudios Member Posts: 1,792
Ok, I decided to pay more attention to social sites.

    Here's my twitter name: @HoneyTribeStu

    Add me!

Also be great if you could comment in the touch arcade thread: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=93286

and 'like' our facebook page: http://www.tiny.cc/honeytribe
