No you can use several standard types of audio to put audio into GameSalad but Game salad will convert it to .m4a or .ogg based on what you select

for tools and many other resources take the time to checkout everything on GameSalad.com GS has done a pretty good job providing information on almost every aspect of game creation.

I've been using a freeware program called "Audacity" to convert my mp3 sounds to ogg, which will be smaller in size.
I'm sure that there is a Mac and PC version of Audacity.

Audacity is by far the best sound tool I have used, and it's free!

You can use it to convert your file to many formats, you can use it to edit your file to trim unnecessary parts, you can use it to change stereo file to mono and resample them to lower hertz to keep it small while retaining quality: I just converted a 6 minutes track to 800 kb!

Remember that music files are to be .m4a and sound files are to be .ogg but if you prefer you can also use .caf files for both.
