Problem with left right buttons

Hi,
Just following this tutorial here -
(Creating a left and right button on screen that controls an actor).
Works fine except when I test on my 3G ipod unless you press right in the center of the button it does not activate the button.
Other games I've downloaded work perfectly so I'm wondering what I'm missing?
Any help appreciated.
