Any tips on "re-installing OS X" on my iMac?

Hey gang,
my iMac could use a fresh install of OS X (maybe it's my Linux mentality) because things have become a mess ... sort of.

Because i don't have much time, I'm wondering if anyone knows of maybe a program that cleans/optimizes my little junk yard and thus saves me from starting over?

Also ... I bought an external hard drive and wonder if "time machine" is better than just to back up manually ... as I am doing?

Ciao,
X

time machine is great because you can make a backup of your entire hard drive and then revert back to it later if you have a crash it even backs up the OS so its truly a backup that will restore to where you know everything is and not just copied files you will have to dig through later to find what you want.

I believe there are some mac cleaner softwares that are pretty good just don't know anything about them. Sorry

Time machine uses a lot of space but you can go back to different versions. I use a little application named backuplist+ it's cheap and works well. Nice guy who gives good support too.

I wouldn't reinstall the system. Back up your stuff and have a go Disk Utility. Start up from a system disc so it can acces all files.

    Thanks guys,

I will pay a little more attention to "time machine" ....

Maybe I'll free up one of the hard drives and let it do it's thing :)

Use Onyx, it's the best and free.
