How did you feel when you realised you where actually got the hang of GS?

Been using GS more and more and it's all sinking in.

Feels really cool.

I remember when I thought I understood attributes, then I REALLY didn't have a clue.
But now they basically all make sense to me aside from the normal explanation of "this one is even numbers, this one is decimal numbers yadda yadda"

Love it when I think of something complex then it's like, Make this rule create that, put that there type this in.

I still have no clue about advanced expressions that use "Sin" and "cos" etc. But i'm really excited about getting more in depth with this software. I haven't released a game yet, nor completed one i'm 100% happy with yet. So super pumped to see what Gamesalad brings to table and what else I might learn.

Would love to hear from you guys on your experiences and what you think.

Been with GS since the 7th of January.

I also think GS should have an option to make all invisible characters Visible just to make it easier then scrolling through the scene layers or clicking randomly.

Note: Hope this is the right forum,.

Thanks!

Bman

First got my hands on GS about two years ago - it's very easy to 'get', but I'm still learning new stuff every day!

When everything clicked, it essentially felt like the software was always inviting, like an enthusiastic collaborator: "So, sheepy, what are we going to make today?"

    Simply awesome!

    QS :D

I completely agree with the invisible actors in the actors panel.

GameSalad if you're listening... its difficult to find actors you want when they have alpha 0 because they're also transparent in the actors panel. Please change how that works. Most of us scan for actors visually rather than reading the names we've given them. Thanks!

    I concur.

There would be a small way around it for the time being but a hassle and more data use.
    Change att. Self.color Alpha - 0

GS should have it at least so when you click the actors in the side panel the same actor on the seem get's highlighted.

I'd love to also learn more useful expressions but for me FINALLY getting the 'run to completion' on timers really helped speed up bug solving on my (current) first project

I kinda had the same thing as QS.
It worked from the beginning but I'm used to scripting.

Not that I know everything but I know where to find it.
Most of the times I come up with something, try it and GS just makes it work.
(And then hours and hours of tweeking to my needs ;)

Edit: And I am addicted to GS.
I even dream about how to make stuff work. OMG!

It was a great feeling, seeing my ideas come to life, i had waited all my life for this, i always wanted to make a game! I now, *almost* get that same feeling over and over, everytime i learn something cool or something i couldnt do on a previous attempt!

I get that feeling everyday I work on something new.

Yesterday I did something in five minutes, and thought to myself I remember when that would have taken me all day to do.
It was something I had never done before, but it was so easy.

It's a great feeling knowing you can do most things on autopilot! Of course there are math equations and other things I won't be able to grasp, but it's much better than what it was 2 years ago when I was ready to pull my hair out! :)

    When did I get it.

Hmm. Started using it in January 2010,

I think after making one simple app, contented baby sleep, making one overly complicated game with a few bugs and design issues for months (quake builder), then reading this forum for about 4 months and getting 100% addicted. I finally felt I could tackle most things and scribble down rule ideas on a bit of paper.

That said I'm still always learning more and always improving.

Charlie Sheen has a better shot at reality than I have of mastering Game Salad. That said, tshirt, Darren, and the other templates have shot my learning curve forward in a way I'm starting to enjoy the software and surprise myself once in a while. Can't say enough about looking into good code as a living example..

I finally got it after writing out my rules in the form of PHP if/then/else code.

Once I realized it was the same only displayed visually, things clicked for me.

There is still a LOT that I don't get and need to learn but the first hump was learning how to use the rules properly.

    Made all the difference.

It was a few weeks ago (mid-March). I was pissed at GS because it wasn't working right. I looked all over my code and resorted to finally saying, "there is a problem with GS." I went to post on the forums and decided to have one more look at my coding and rules... lo and behold, it was a error with me. I realized that GS is solid and it was me. Since then, it's all made sense. Making numbers match up with rules and such. Everything is working great. I can create some amazing things in just a few days (nothing is ever finished (only about 90% done), I guess that's the case with just about all game developers).

So now I go back and forth between projects and try to get those last few 'things' added to them to finally get a game out onto the market. I need to start making some moolah!
