My bank charges $30/month to clear the Apple payments :(

Hi,
Is anyone else paying money to the bank for each deposit that apple makes?
My bank charges me $30 every month which is a lot for a few seconds of work.

I am wondering if there is a problem with the way I filled out the papers on the apple site?

Any Canadians who can confirm this or have advise?

Thanks,
X :)

    Man, I hate money changers.

Sounds like it's time to find a new bank. That is ridiculous.

As soon as enough confirm this, I will change!

I am especially interested in how Canadian users manage the transaction and if $30 is standard ... or not?

Well it isn't in the United States. Here it's free. Even if it isn't free there, $30 sounds like a bit of an extreme.

    Here In Ireland It's free.

For me at least, I have a indie account not company, don't know if that makes any odds

That sounds ridiculous. It's free for me too (U.S.).. First, I would call your bank and ask them what the deal is. It sounds like they may be processing it as a wire transfer rather than an ACH deposit. Wire transfers usually cost $$, ACH deposits are (at least at any bank I've seen in the U.S.) free. Maybe for international payments apple uses wire transfers?

It could just be an accident at the bank too. If it's not, then ask them what it is categorized as (what type of transfer) and call other banks and ask them their rates for the same thing. Sometimes when you start inquiring at the bank they will adjust your fees and sometimes even waive previous fees. So a few minutes of calling and asking questions could save you hundreds.

Yeah, sounds like your bank is doing the sex to you. I'd look into it and see if a different one wouldn't charge.

    I can confirm you this,

    CHANGE your BANK..

I am not located in the USA, but I use Citibank to receive payment,
and they don't charge me anything, except for (kind of ripping me off) the exchange rates..

So go to another bank, and explain your situation

    You:
"Hi I am going to receive millions of dollars every month from a company in the USA, California,
I don't know if you knew... Apple Inc."

    Banker:
"Never heard of them, but go ahead.."

    You:
"owww... okay (whispering to yourself :" you must be living under the rock")
well, I am wandering if your bank charges any fee if an overseas remittance is received.."

    Banker:
    "No idea, maybe"

    You:
    (Yelling) IDIOT!!
(and scramble out of the door to another bank that understands you)

    Well... joking aside..

    you get the gist..

find a bank that don't charge overseas remittance,
shouldn't be too hard to find..
ESPECIALLY in a developed country such as Canada,
I live in a third world country, but I can still find good banks..

and BIG banks like Citibank don't
(I don't know in your country)

or FIND a bank that charges lower fees.. like 20bucks or something
you can save USD120 per year!!

Remember this: BANK is a service, if you don't like them, go to their competitor, who can offer competitive services and fees!
it will piss them off haha

    Cheers

    Anton

Hey Xylo, I'm in Canada what bank are you with?

I'm with BMO and my handling charge is $14. $30 sounds insane I'd change...Sounds like you're with RBC or CIBC.

I'm with TD Canada Trust and I've never had a single charge for any of my payments from Apple, money appears in my account and I carry on with my merry day. You might want to switch banks.

First of all, THANKS everyone for shedding some light at my mess!

Yes, I am a long time CIBC customer and tomorrow, I will sing them a song in f-minor!

    I hope they listen :)

    Weeel,
my little chat with the bank manager was a waste of time. It's "apple's" fault for doing the transfer the way they do it.

    My new question is:
Does anyone just get checks from apple or does it have to be the bank route?

    thanks,
    xylo

Yeah Big banks will say that no doubt. Go with a Credit Union they're so much better/ethical.

I believe you can get checks...look into the Payments and Financial info in Connect.

    Thanks Touch,
I will try and fix this a.s.a.p.!

$360/year to transfer the apple payment is robbery!
Apple at least will give me a dev account for three years for that kind of money :)

Anyway ... my nerves have calm down and I'm back to messin' with my project ...
