I miss the good old days of gaming...

I finally decided last night to take a break, and play a game, which it's been awhile for me!
I popped in Transformers: War for Cybertron for PS3, and waited for it to install... about 10 minutes later it was stuck on 33.8%, so I took the disc out and retried, but it wouldn't work..
I ended up playing Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii instead which I popped in and played immediately with no wait.
Is anyone else aggravated with the way Sony makes you play games now? I know they're trying to help with pirating but this is ridiculous!
I miss the good ol' days of the Super Nintendo Era where you popped the cartridge in, and there was literally no wait. You just played the damn game.
And don't even get me started on all the various options when you buy a game nowadays ie: A lot of console games having 3 different versions of a game, making it all the more confusing, and frustrating for the consumer. Am I getting the better deal spending $80 for all content, or do I just go for the basic game at $60? I loved how back in the day, everyone was on the same level playing field, and there were no upgrades, mission packs or map packs to purchase. What you see is what you get, and it's as simple as that!
That's one thing I love about digital media now, and I find myself playing more games from the Sony store than anything, and waiting to install a game is painful.
I also stay far away from iOS games with ridiculous amounts of in app purchasing or extras. I think there should be one price tag on a game, and that's it.
When in app purchasing becomes available for Gamesalad, I will use it for one thing, and one thing only, in a lite version of a game I'm trying to sell at .99
Oh well... just my rant for today (And going off on tangents

That's what I'm doing with BOT. I miss the 2D adventure games. The last 2D console game I bought for Wii (on disk) was New Super Mario Bros Wii... a 2D adventure game. I think my last Wiiware game was Blaster Master... also a 2D adventure game. HA!
Your points are the reasons I don't play modern games, don't have a gaming pc, Xbox or PlayStation

True though, a lot of games don't have that depth... I wanted to make another platformer game now that I have the tools to do so (Thanks to Darren's template) but I'm afraid platformers just aren't that popular for the iOS devices... Maybe if the right one came along, it could strike a chord with iOS gamers, but it's surprising that I don't believe there are any platformers in the top 100 games in the app store...
I think Giana sisters came close to doing very well, but it's not in the top 100, and that game was released for the DS in the Australia I believe...
2D adventures games are great, and I think they're still a strong contender for the app store!
Super Mario Bros Wii was great! Although I think Kirby's Epic Yarn is really spectacular, and innovative both with it's gameplay and artistic style.
But more than anything, I'm so annoyed with Sony that we have to install our games into a hard drive. What a waste of space, I don't believe Xbox makes you do that, nor Nintendo, so it's just aggravating.
Oh shi$ I'm showing my age now.
Blaster Master.
So good... Hard though.
Super Nintendo/Spectrum forever
The IAP thing, and I'm going to sound like a broken record, is just horrible. Like you say - you buy a game for a fixed price and that's it!
Of course things change - so MMOs will charge you again for significant increases in content - and that's ok if the game's popular. I imagine the same will be true of IAP - if you have a good game, then IAPs will help - but they won't help you get a good game!
I'm not a fan of what the game industry has become. A 'service', essentially, where you buy a licence to use something, and fully owning a game is fast becoming a thing of the past.
People may rightly tell me that the industry has moved on, that monetising games in any way possible is the way forward.
It's all about the money!
They may be right. That doesn't mean I have to like it. Or abide by those concepts.
The game comes first. We are providing fun, in exchange for money. Never forget that!
And yes, I've ranted and gone off on a few tangents too!

I remember 22Y ago ... a weeks vacation with home baked carrot cake, a blanket, Nintendo, Metroid, squared paper and a pen to draw maps on (and the same with Zelda of course)
That really was the days and I sure do miss it!
A lot of years and great games after I still remember the extreme feeling of playing a game filled with mystery, hidden corridors and the excitement when discovering new things.
With years and time also comes knowledge and awareness and one tend to search for something more and more extreme to satisfy ones desire.
In the end some of the most simple things in this world - like some very simple games - are the best ones. And one always remembers the first ^^
Maaan now i gotta find roms and play them again lol.
@Dreamlab: I have a 360 as well, and play that just as much! Have you played the game Limbo that's downloadable on Xbox live? It's AMAZING!
