neat actor attribute technique

Hi all,
forgive me if this is something you all already know, but it came as a bit of a revelation to me and is very useful.
make an actor, give it an attribute. Put it in your scene and double click it, but don't unlock it. Down the left side you can access the attributes and alter the attribute of this instance of the actor, but because you haven't unlocked it, you can still alter the actor's prototype (add new behaviors etc) and it will update all of the instances within the scenes, even though they can all have unique attribute values.
Really useful for unlock level and star rating tecniques.
again, sorry if this is common knowledge, but I thought it worthy of passing along.
cheers
