Hey Guys,
I'm doing a project called project citizen. I'm supposed to change something that I do not think is right. My project is on age limits for Apple Development. As you "must" be 18 to have an account. Like some of you here (if under 18) I Use my dads account to publish games.

Please post your opinions here ;),
Matt

It's a financial and legal relationship with Apple. That's unlikely to change anytime soon. That's just how the law works.

I am 12 and have been working on games then I am going to release them all at one time then make more game and i had no idea that you had to be 18 to have an account. I will probably use my dads.

Right, I dont think apple really has an age restriction to develop as long as you can figure out the financial stuff.

You cannot legal agree to any of the contracts as a minor. Therefore they will likely give you the boot if they find out. Sorry but that the law. I'm personally torn on this issue myself. Im not directly affected since I am older than 18, however I get asked all the time about revenue sharing with someones project and my first question before anything else is and has to be are you 18 or over since I wont put myself in the position of having a minor sign a useless contract. While I think everyone should have access to the help I do wish there was a to determine who's underage and who's not on this forum. again for the same reason. I think it would surprise most of us and probably hurt GameSalad if people knew how many kids there are making games with GameSalad. It would most certainly add to the GameSalad games suck revolution once everyone realizes theres like a 75% chance if the game says Powered by GameSalad it was made by a kid.

I'm sure i'll catch some flak for this but you asked for my thoughts so there you go. I don't see anything wrong with someone underage making a game but unfortunately the nature of most teens is to half ass most things. There for i'm not sure there shouldn't be a disclaimer about the age of the developer, as the majority of the underage developers are hurting the few that take it seriously.

Yes, if they respect IP and copyright rules. Seems to be a mystery to some under 18.

    Hey Guys,
Does anyone have any ideas on how to contact apple to just have an interview? Should I just contact the regular developer number?

is it really so diffivult to use a parents account?
its probably good to discuss the legal aspects with them anyway.
you'll be 18 before you know it! dont worry.

I was a kid programmer myself! But the app store is "the real world"' (well, a real virtual world!)
even if they can code like prodigies,
kids may not fully grasp the full reality of what it means, even if they think they know everything already

needless to say, the app store does not need to be flooded with any more half baked stuff
(though it seems grownups all also quite capable of producing it, ha ha)

what fun we would have had with Something like GS back then!

Some dads will get rich ;)

Great to hear you guys start so young. I was 15 when I developed commodore 64 games but never released anything because most of it wasn't finished and I didn't have a clue how to release a game. It was pure for fun and for later. Now 25 years later I'm finally releasing games ;)
