Multiple Cannons and Balls

Im pretty sure this can't be done yet, but its worth asking anyways. Imaging a bunch of little cannons, spread around a play area. Then imagine a whole bunch of balls (lol). When a ball is in range of a cannon, the cannon should rotate to face it and fire at it. If there's more than one, the cannon should shoot the closest. What can I do, other than 40 attributes and constraints? The only idea I had was an invisible strip to collide with the balls when they're in range and direct the cannon, but I don't think that would work either.
