Is this possible in animation?

Say you have a character, like mario, running from left to right. You'd have a series of png files that create the animation. How would you change the animation to show him throwing a fireball? You'd have to show a different png which would make the running animation judder.

Hope that made sense. Thanks!

it would be possible I think it would just take some tweaking of the rules to get it right.

You may find you can switch an animation with no real visual problems if the sequences are cutting at a non matching moment. And if you don't you will have a delay between the throw instruction and action happening. Or you could have a constrained actor with an overlay animation for the arm.

I would just switch sequences and if it don't work, then fix it. Most times it does. And to do it I would have all your animations in different rules, and have them them switch based on a self interger attribute that you switch from whatever you want- touches, collisions, controls feeding game attributes etc

You could also separate the top and bottom pr just the arms into two actors with different animations and anchor them with contraints. Not pretty to manage with too many actions though.
