I guess it all depends on what is the quality of the final product.... if you want to compare making money with Gamesalad versus making money with apps developped directly in Xcode.
I guess if someone has no success with their shoot'em up game it may not be because of the Gamesald engine/development but rather the luck of the draw, the marketing, the flavor of the day, etc..
Don't forget that the app developper has to figure out how to make the app stand out against the 99999 other apps available. Not necessarily better than the big companies out there.. just being seen, talked about, getting good reviews, finding the customer base.
If the iFart guy would have used GameSalad he probably would have had the same success, if it was at that same time, with the same marketing, etc...
I can say any numbers because i haven't released an app yet, but for me it'll be way easier to make money (profit) because my only cost will be my own time, and maybe pay for graphics... When i made other apps i outsourced the coding and it was an adventure. Now i feel more in control within the limits of the software and will be able to get more results faster and just keep modifying the app as i see fit without additionnal costs. So as soon as i sell 130 times at 99 cents i'll have paid back the subscription then... profit !!
I sold on average 15 a day across 3 games. However, other then the license and GS license, i spent literally no money on making any of my games. i do my own art, code, and music, so i'm all profit!
Do you find that sales taper off after a while? Does an old app become totally forgotten or does it still bring in some money on a regular basis? I would expect that an app (especially a game) slowly disappear into the abyss, unless there is a constant marketing effort, or unless it is a global hit.
Or not?
I ask this because I read in another thread about daily sales "settling down" after a couple of days. Personally I see a slow tapering down of sales but I must be honest, I haven't done much in the line of marketing yet.
I have 5 games up. In the last week my sales have gone up quite a bit. Yesterday I had 46 paid sales and some free promo codes were used as well. I am thinking it is due to some marketing efforts I made through facebook, toucharcade, and my own website - not really sure though. SO I haven't seen the settling yet.
I will have made my $200 investment back in the first month.
Well I'm not getting rich, but between my two games I average 10-12 sales a day so far. Thats like getting a free lunch every day :P. Oh, and just as a reminder heres my links. If you need a promo code just ask. I'm shameless I know!!
My first novelty app - 'Sounds That Drive You Crazy' - has actually sold a lot better then I thought it would. It is a goofy silly app that doesn't really do anything but for some reason since Xmas I have sold 2-3 a day! I have done zero marketing on it and have NO idea how people are finding it! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sounds-that-drive-you-crazy/id341692137?mt=8
My newest app - 'Pick A Party - Senate Edition', which is a game/quiz/educational, has started off slow but I have sold several a day since it was released on Tuesday. I am going to start marketing it and see if I can increase the sales for it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pick-a-party/id348872806?mt=8
No matter what happens it has been fun doing this :-)
@gregr209 You're a social studies teacher, right? I'm a science teacher and I recently setup a website with my science games embedded on them along with youtube videos of the games. Then I went to facebook and created an account for my science games and have been joining science teacher groups and friending the other members. Now I put out status updates that direct people to my site to play the free games. Of course if they don't have a mac they can't play the embedded GS game, but they can watch the youtube video and of course I place prominent links to my apps on the app store. Since doing that I have been selling 5 or 6 TIMES more science games. Just a thought may work best for teachers (because at first it seems that you are sending other teachers to free material - which you are, but then they see that they can get it on their phone).
Not sure that the marketing had anything to do with it! I just found one of my games (blood kart racing) under Hot New Games in the iphone version of the appstore! Not sure how it got there.

Old thread to resurrect here!
Looking at your site I am gonna say 'no', unfortunately.
The polish just isn't there, the visual style looks very 'Microsoft Word graphics'.
Of course, from a learning perspective I'm sure things are improving and it's good to have developed a few titles. However, I would not get your hopes up too high for sales.
You have a bank account. Apple deposits money into your bank account monthly if sales > $150. If less, you may have to let the sales build--for some reason Apple doesn't like to make small payments. If you're interested, BTW, Apple does not use paypal.

Closing this Thread down for a few Reasons.
1. The Question asked to bump the thread has nothing to do with the original thread which was has anyone made money. Not I have no idea how I get paid.
2. This Thread is a year old and Should have never been bumped in the first place as there have been 10 other similar threads in the last year with the same general answers.
