Background Help

So im sure this is an easy one, but i'm missing something. Im looking to do a scrolling background like that which is used in games like New Super Mario Bros. I've search forums and google and still cant seem to get it right.
I have 3 images that i am using for my background, which i would like to move at different speeds like Mario games. I have tried velocity and move but its just not coming out right. My game screen is close to about 8000 pixels wide. Thanks in advance
