I need opinions and suggestions on a cowboy drawing

Lately, I've been dabbling in the wonderful world of graphic design. Mostly, I've been working in Inkscape. I've begun work on a game about cowboys, and I made a picture for a top view of a cowboy. Since I'm only a beginner in this field, and I know there are tons of great artists (as well as people with an eye for detail) who might be able to help, I thought I'd share it with all of you. If you have any honest opinions or suggestions for improvement, I'd really appreciate it.

It's not exactly going to be a top-down shooter, but it will have some shooter elements in it. I don't want to reveal too much until I'm further into the developing process.

I darkened the shadows and added some shoulders. I also did a small bit of detailing on the hand. What do you guys think?

I would use colour and tone to help separate different areas, such as the shirt/shoulders in a blue and lighter in tone than the hat. The gun reads as small and not very classic colt 45 so I would also work on that a little, and the flash of flames I would add rounded corners to so it visually sat with the rest of the drawing.
