Copyright?

If I wanted to make a game based on a very old cartoon
(just an example, Biker Mice From Mars)
Would that be considered copyright although this cartoon hasn't aired on TV for years and probably don't exsist anymore?

No, you can not do that, the intellectual property still exists, even though it my not be on TV in your area.

    (From Wikipedia)Expiration of copyright

The expiration of a copyright is more complex than that of a patent. Historically the United States has specified terms of a number of years following creation or publication; this number has been increased several times. Most other countries specify terms of a number of years following the death of the last surviving creator; this number varies from one country to another (50 years and 70 years are the most common), and has also been increased in many of them.

    Thanks for the info.

No worries... I thought I'd better dust off the sous-chef cap so I don't get fired. LOL.

It seems I'm about the slowest in the class though... I don't have such a techie mind. Still, after 8 weeks of learning I'm able to code a painting app in C++ ;-) I'm still using devkits for games, though... so much easier... honestly, the amount of code just to set up a window is ridiculous... I think I'll only use C++ for creating tools like sprite makers and other useful stuff. The course has given me an awesome understanding of code, though... I can now pick up stuff like Unity and write scripts easily... watch this space for the new version of Max Vector!

I look forward to an updated Max Vector; loved the name and the first game, very stylish as I remember, so an update will certainly be something to look out for!

Truly impressed that you're making headway with C++. I tried a couple of years ago and quite frankly, it was "doing my head in"! (UK expression...) I couldn't grasp the concepts, partly because my main programming knowledge is a couple of types of Basic perhaps, so stuck in a sort of rut, as it were. Or I haven't enough brain cells! Either way, it seemed like painting the heads of needles to me... Your perseverence is paying off, being able to code Unity for instance, excellent stuff.

    :-)

Yeah, it's certainly hard. I've tried on numerous occasions too... books just don't cut it, you really need to be trained, if you are like me! Going to school forces me to learn!

After a while, things gel, though and it becomes much clearer... then the tutor throws windows programming and Direct X at you. LOL
