edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Hello everyone,

After contemplating between iMac and MacBook Pro (for weeks), I finally decided to go with iMac. However, I am still not too sure which once. Should I get 21.5" or 27"?

First, I was thinking if I got 27", then I would be able to open any graphic design software (such as photoshop), side by side with GS. When i went to apple store, I just don't see this idea would work. Both software would be somewhat cramped up. Then I was thinking, may be I should use the whole 27" for each software, but then I thought, do I really need to have that much space for GS or Photoshop only? So if you have 27" iMac, how do you usually set up your designing space? Pro and Cons?

That's when the 21.5 inches came to my mind. May be GS or Photoshop doesn't need to be side by side. May be GS or Photoshop by itself will have enough space on 21.5. So if you have 21" iMac, hos do you usually set up your space? Pro and Cons?

Thank you so much

This can get kind of boring but you can have one right behind the other one and click on the one that you want to use. You can also use spaces and be able to use the full 27". You can also do it the old fashion way by just clicking on the dock the app you want to use and you can use the full 27" as well. Try those and figure out which one you like the best. Or you could wait for lion and get all the cool feature that lion will have.

Thank you for your reply Jam. However, I am not going to get both for dual display. My choice is either 21.5" or 27".

    Hey imperium,
I have the 27" iMac, an iPad and an iPhone.
The only time I miss having a MacBook is when I have a job that requires me to be mobile but I do have an old Toshiba Qosmio lPtop which is still good to have.

The iMac has been a joy from day one :-)

always get as much as you can afford, you'll always regret not getting it down the road.

I have a 27" and i love it. the 21.5 would be way too small

I do all my game work with a IMAC 27", also run a 2nd 20' monitor. I love this setup. I also have 2 windows laptops if I need to be mobile you can access sites and do art on it if you need to be mobile.

But the size of the screen, the power and having a 2nd monitor is nice for working. In your face GS is nice.

    Thanks

Go for the 27 inch every time. I also use a small hi def tv as a second monitor so when using premier I can preview on that and it gives even more space for general work.

I have a 21.5" iMac, and it's plenty of room. Sometimes I hook up another 23" monitor when i'm feeling frisky. Other than that, I just use "Spaces" to organize my windows and open applications when i'm working.

Thank you for everyone's opinion and suggestion. I finally made up my mind. It will be 27" indeed. I'm so excited and thank you again.

Good choice! I'm envious; my iMac is the 24" version. :-)

Glad you steered clear of laptops - that would drive you up the wall using GS. Using a mouse with it wouldn't be much better.

one thing isl for sure. No one ever regretted to go with a big monitor!
There will be times when you want to have GS open two times so that you can see the rules of another game while creating a new one and then a second monitor will come in handy but all in all, the 27" is perfect.

    Enjoy your baby ;-)

I don't think you will need both Photoshop and GS visible at the same time, I never have at least.

That said, go for the 27 if you can.

I have had the 27 inch for 2 weeks myself, the res on this thing is awesome! having so many things open is quite good, and you can fit two web browsers next to each other and still have a bit of room, I have PS, Flash and GS open together at the dame time.
