Or, should I use a few particles to give the effect?
Thanks guys.

Hi DrGlickert, there are no rules there, just whichever gives you the best for you personally, as they will be different types of effects as you know.
Darren & Wayne of Deep Blue Apps sell an excellent piece of software called Explosion Generator, which you can create custom explosions and save it out as pngs to use as animation frames in GS. Well worth checking out especially as it's only £3 (about $5). The only thing is, don't click the checkbox marked Simulate Sound, as this will crash the program. I emailed DBA about this a month ago or so, but they never replied...
It uses animation. The program uses 18 images, so you create an actor with the behavior of "Animation" and put the 18 images into it. I put 18 frames per second so after 1 second the explosion is gone.
It's pretty sweet!

Hi kleelj; the explosion generator is a standalone program which doesn't interact with GS itself in any way. You use the explosion generator software to make the explosion you want and when you're happy, you export the individual frames as PNG files to a folder on your computer desktop. Now you drag these into your Images well as usual to use in an Animation Behaviour.
