So. What other games have been successful?

Well, never made a top five list, but with over a year on the app store, my first game Food Fight! is still getting between 100-250 downloads a day. It free (always has been), and has been well reviewed... (with a few update hic-ups along the way)

I'm working on adding Game Center as I have time to get into it. It's hard to devote too much time to a free game.

I have seen a number of really good GS games that have not been successful. You just never know what will grab people.

Great games that I've seen come and go over the passed year and a half... some still very popular:

Kill the king - (was the first game that made me think..I want to learn GameSalad)
    Lite version:

Red Block Remover - By T-shirt Booth, an early game from him, simple clean design, probably runs well on all devices but well designed levels made this game a hit (still very popular). He made a sequel too. I'm pretty sure I was playing this on my wifes ipod touch before I knew about GameSalad.
    Lite version:

Grisly Manor (as mentioned before) By firemaple... one of the best games out of GS to date. And inspired me to start work on a project (Dark Asylum , not yet finished)
    Paid:

    Puzzle Dozer
Another brilliantly polished game, this time by Gamesmold. It really shows how much cool camera control, level design, graphics, polish can be put into a game.
    Lite version:
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/puzzledozerlite/id403552398?mt=8

And purely to get a plug for one of my games in.
Quake Builder and the Asteroids: (Free)
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/quake-builder/id355345146?mt=8

The first proper game I made with GameSalad last summer. After making it free months after release it managed around 250,000 downloads in one week... still earn a little revenue from the iAds.. (could of earnt a lot more had I got the ads working in time for when it was first made free, live and learn...)

Also...many thanks to Jamwithno for mentioning my new game 'Escape Artist'... much appreciated... glad someone likes it.

    Escape Artist (Paid)

Zombie Drop is good because as soon as you put it on you can see all the hard work put into it. I dont usually get the PAID apps but zombie drop was on the freeappaday thing when i got it so i guess i was lucky on checking!

First of all, if you want to make a successful game, you have to choose your favorite genre. If you love sport games, just make one. If you love sports games and try to make a casual Angry Birds-similar game, just for the profit - you will fail. And that's a fact.

    Why?

If you love some type of games, I suppose that you played a lot of them. So you know what features those games have, what things you should avoid as a developer etc.

And a little advice for Jon - classic point&click adventure games were popular long time ago, now they are niche products. So if you want to sell your upcoming adventure game to hardcore adventure fans (like me, and I know what I'm talking about - I have almost 15 years experience in this genre), you can't tell them that you made Dark Asylum - The 7 Lost Souls only because you were inspired by good sales of other game.
I know that you don't play this type of games (and that you started to play them after seeing the success of Grisly Manor), but you have to just pretend that you love them, if you want to make any money from your upcoming game.

    Just my 2 cents.
