3d isnt possible with gamesalad with out some tricky animation with 3d images.

I believe chinatown wars is a 3d cel shaded game with a top down perspective, so at first glance it might look 2d, but it is definitely a 3d rendered game, which GameSalad can't do.

I would imagine that it would be fairly difficult to give the appearance of a 3d-topdown view game in Gamesalad. It would take some VERY creative drawings and use of actors.

I'm planning a strategy game that may include this feature, but I just don't know if it's possible. I really don't want to spend a lot of money on artwork, only to find out that it doesn't work (or doesn't work well).

yeah i know 3d is not possible and iam not thinking of making one, but i thought a game like that was 2d, so all the pokemon games are 3d then?

well... not the old ones... I think you are confusing the concepts of 3D perspective and 3D Rendering.

old games used to simulate the perception of 3D by using a combination of visual effects, be it parallax scrolling, re-scaling, shading, etc. but they were created using two dimensional images (which GameSalad uses) but games like chinatown wars or the new Pokemon create the game using a 3D rendering software such as Unity.
