Uh oh.. am I SOL?

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
I've been working on this project for about 12 hours getting the physics JUST right. As soon as I do I start importing my assets and what not and now my entire GameSalad screen, except the toolbar, is just grey. I tried restarting both the program and my computer, tried re-opening it and I can't seem to get any of me scenes back. Is there a way to export the information and import it into a new project or am I SOL? I know all the information is still active because it will let me "web preview" the project and it runs perfectly.

Any info would be great.

Matt

few things to try, but before you do anything, make a copy of your original project file and move it somewhere safe

    1. close GS and delete it. Redownload the application and retry (i don't think this will work, but give it a try)

    2. make another copy of the project file and try and open that, does it work?

    3. open GS and make a new project, does that work?

    4. if it opens, save the project, right click on your old project and view show package contents. you should see your information in the folders. right click on the new project you just created and choose show package contents again. copy everything from your old project into that new project.

No dice on any of that.

Thanks for the help. Lesson learned.

I'll start up on a new one!

i think your assets.xml or objects.xml file got corrupter, that's what it sounds like. when i removed them from my game, it came up all blank too.

do you use time machine? have a backup from a few hours ago?

Same thing just happened to me: http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=2434

Did this happen to you when you were using the Save Attribute / Load Attribute behaviors? Maybe this is a bug that has to do with that... Let me know if you figure anything else out.

I wasn't using an attribute but I was loading files into the project when it happened.

Best of luck figuring it out, I had to start all over unfortunately.

@MattVollet: What do you mean it happened while you were "loading files into the project?" Do you mean resources such as image files, sound files, etc. or do you mean manually adding files into the gameproj directory itself (i.e. replacing an XML file with another one you hand edited)?

I am assuming the first and it would be good to know (i.e. save a copy of the GS project before importing). Were the files big or the wrong format or something?

    sorry I was unclear.

I meant I was loading assets into the actors window. I wouldn't know how to begin to hand-edit that kind of stuff.

And no, the files may have been large but not unordinary so. I think in this particular instance I was loading multiple assets, though, if that helps.

    Just had the same problem.
Initially I just smashed my head on the wall in frustration, then I read about the xml files and after a quick look I tried deleting the prototype strings starting from the last ones.
And it worked, if you remember the last actors you added you can easily remake them.

Whoa!! That totally fixed it! I had to delete the last 2 actor prototype strings from object.xml, apparently they were both causing problems. But it works! Thanks so much maralfer!
