Make Photoshop default prog when opening files from GS?

Hi, eek, I've forgotten how to do this: double-clicking an image from the Actor Editor's image well opens it up in Preview (used to open it in Photoshop). How do I change the default setting (on the Mac somewhere perhaps - vague memory...)

Any help appreciated, thanks.

If you open the info panel (cmd i) for any png file you can set the default opener to whatever you want.

Ah that was it, old_kipper, thanks. I wish there was a way to make this generic though, a one-off selection - which would save time not having to change it in info for every image. I guess that would have to be built into GS; perhaps it is somewhere?

The change all button on the info panel does this, but do you really want to fire up PS every time you preview a png ?

So it does; didn't look past the end of my nose; thanks Rob.

Yes I do, especially when I'm experimenting with stuff; what it looks like in-situ and the like; half the time I'll want to amend images, so with PS open all the time, I can open it striaght away; and it can act as previewing as well.

    Hello gyroscipe,

Rob2 has a good point. Opening photoshop each and every time is a bit overkill.
I'm sure you know this but cropping, resizing, make and area transparent and loat/save in other formats are things that can be done quickly with the built in standard preview option.
Even if you have one of those monster high end macs, preview is VERY powerful and does a lot of stuff.

I love the resizing option ... saves me a ton of time and i need it often.

    Ciao,

Hi Xylo, Preview has become more powerful over the years for certain; but I guess because my graphics/pic files originate from photoshop, I scurry back there! I find it slightly quicker too to find the original psd file from its name to change layers, etc. Different folks have different strokes, I guess! Thanks for help as well though. :-)

in your assets folder select all your images you want to use in your game, then right-click (or control-click) for the contextual menu. You will see one "open with..." if you ALSO hold down the option key it will change to "always open with..." then choose Photoshop from that list. That way all those images will always open with Photoshop, but every other .png on your computer will still default to Preview.

    @ gyro,
yeah, manipulating the actual pixels unfortunately means firing up the monster.
The reason why I suggested preview is because it has a handful of features that need to be performed often and PS is not known as a speedy starter ;)

My first app was for the iPad and I remember that when I worked on the iPhone project that resizing images was tedious.
Back then I didn't know how powerful "preview" actually is and had to fire up GIMP every time .... yikes LOL

    Those were the days :)

Thanks a lot for that tip, JP; good stuff. :-)
