Sound vs. Music

Does anyone know the inner details of why I'm asked whether the sound I'm importing is music or a sound?

The reason I ask (besides being curious) is that I'm having a little bug in GS where music plays but sounds don't. So I'm thinking of importing my sound as music, even though it's under 8 seconds. Is this OK, or might it hinder performance?

Sounds are short tracks, whereas music is longer. As far as I know, the only difference between the two (besides what I just mentioned) is what options you are given when playing each track. For instance, when you play a sound, you use the Play Sound behavior and you are given quite a few options to choose from. However, when you play music, you must use the Play Music behavior. With that behavior you are limited in the options you have. Hope that helps :)

I'm not an expert on sound/music. But .ogg files should be used for sound effects. Is that what you're using?

No--I'v tried mp3 and wav. I'll use an online music converter, and try ogg. Thanks for the suggestion.

No go. Didn't work. I'm just going to select "music," and hope it works (with good performance). Thanks anyway.
