Behind Apple's review process

Hi there,

I was wondering if anybody had any behind the scenes info on how apple does it's review process. Like how many people review a game, what is the workload like etc.

On another note, what would something that you would not do in order to annoy them? In other words how do you as a developer make sure that the process is very easy for them.

Thanks again :)

From what I understand, they're pretty hush-hush about the process. I haven't been able to find anything to helpful/informative about the matter, on GS and other online forums.

All I really care about is: they approve your apps! :) But, seriously, I'm curious too. I like making people's job easy, to be nice, and easy probably = fast. :)

To make it easy for them; make a game that doesn't violate any of the rules and doesn't crash on them. Make a game that works. If they're constantly loading up the game because it keeps crashing on them then they'll probably get pretty pissed off.

Yeah, they must see a lot of junk that goes their way. It would be nice to see a simple list of best practices to not annoy apple. I would just like to be at a place where I could get my apps reviewed in 1-3 days after uploading them :)

A bit extensive, but still useful. Its not about how they review apps, more about what you should and shouldn't do.

    Commen sence helps too.
Last week I got a Dutch version of an approved.
I explained it was the same as the English but just with Dutch text.
My gues is that simple things like that helps.
I wonder why it takes then 3.5 hrs to test a simple game.
The app has just 2 scenes and a pause scene.
I too would love to know what they do in those hours.

I think that every time they open a gamesalad made game, a tester becomes suicidal because after seeing the intro over 1000 times, it's not easy to go on with life. That's why they need to pause!

I wonder if Apple would consider to hire me as an GGO (gamesalad game opener)? This way, I do the nasty and once the first screen loads, I pass it on to the professionals.

My skills enable me to turn on an iphone or an ipad without looking so I'm sure that I could work there .... for a few days (or more if I find a way to suppress the sound).

I'm wondering if I should write a Haiku in the notes section.

    Machine gun blasting
    Sword thrust bursts robo aflame
    BOT app to review

    LOL

I wonder what the process would be to get a job like that (reviewing the games) and if it would pay well?

Full or part time? I wonder what skills/requirements a job like that has.

    Funny they mention this:

"If your App looks like it was cobbled together in a few days, or you're trying to get your first practice App into the store to impress your friends, please brace yourself for rejection. We have lots of serious developers who don't want their quality Apps to be surrounded by amateur hour."

I don't see that applied, at least in an strict way.

There's more to app-making than impressing friends?! :)

It seems like it comes and goes. THey get strict as hell for a bit and then sometimes they approve the same thing over and over.

I think it depends on who you draw as a reviewer. Some are stricter than others.
