Merging iPad and iPhone app versions
I was going to wait until GS came out with the universal app feature, but I was thinking I'd release an iPad version separately, then make one of those two versions universal and drop the other one.
But... that's not really fair to people who will buy the discontinued version. Is there any way to take the two separate versions and have customers who bought both receive updates for both, with out have 2 versions of the same app on the store? Any other suggestions?

I'm trying to decide if I should release a separate iPad edition or wait for GS to allow universal apps.
i for one have bought plantsVSzombies on both iphone and ipad. if there was an universal app, great for me but not the developer.
Just make your game and then re-size it with Project re-sizer tool available here

To answer your question No there is no way to combine to versions after the fact or even credit everyone who bought something with another app later on.

Universal apps are sale point. if you have $1 to spend and are looking at 2 games which are you gonna buy? the universal app or the one limited to just the ipad. Its also a great way to justify charging more for an app since you can be selling them for multiple platforms.
Also universal app build are on the roadmap for Fall. http://gamesalad.com/corporate/roadmap/
