need help with image size

ok so iam taking pictures to my actor then edit on photoshop, my actor is 50x50, so first in the actor in gamesalad i change the size of the actor to 50x50,. then i drag the picture ? but if i want my game to work on iphone 4, i have to make the image 100x100 from the beginning , but is ok to drag that image to my actor that is 50x50? basically is always better to make image big from star?

Yes, if you always take the images at 2x resolution, it allows you to develop with resolution independence.

so when creating a game i should use 2x resolution images, that way my game will work on all devices?

but if my actor is 50x50 and i use a 100x100 image dont this will use more ram on older devices?
