Can i be sued?
Hey everyone, im halfway through finishing an iphone game,
its a platformer, similar to super mario brothers,
its a similar game style.
no artwork is copied from Super Mario, all where paid for an i own the rights to them,
are there other ways i can be copyrighted?

Just make sure you don't use any names, musics or graphics from Mario.
basic platformer, run around, jump on enemies heads to kill them, collectibles,
no names, music or graphics are from there,
so im in the clear right!
It became a category of games in the eighties
I will post a preview this weekend!
if anyone else has any info on copyrights etc please let me know!

If you're really that concerned about your game resembling Mario Bros. then you should contact a copyright attorney in your area.
Most likely, Ninetendo won't waste their time with filing suits against lowly independent developers like us. And, they don't just sue you, they send you a "Cease a Desist"(C&D) letter first. C&D is just a threatening letter saying that if you continue to sell your game then they're going to file a lawsuit against you.
**Fun little tidbit though; did you know that the bushes in Mario Bros. are just clouds that are a different color? Or, is it that clouds are bushes that are colored white...? Hmm... Ponder that one for a while.
