I myself havent published any games, but have tried to find the answer that same question. And so far this is what i've been told. It could be as little as a few to a several thousand a month. It not only depends on the quality of the game, but how you market the game. Both are equally important, which makes sense because; whats a good game if no one knows about it.
I know you were expecting a more exact answer, but i hope this kind of gives you an idea.

Well... what does it possibly matter what other people make. How much do you want to make? How much do you think your game is worth? How much do you NEED to make? These are the real questions to ask, along with knowing the game you made is quality and unique.

Aiming for someone else's success or failure doesn't make much sense, because a lot of times an Apps popularity is circumstantial. You know, it's about the right people seeing the game, and word of mouth spreading the popularity.

I would make a realistic fiscal goal, find out how many sales you need to reach that goal, then make a game and promote and market the game to reach that goal.

I've heard monthly sales reports on here anywhere from $3500 to $0... and a lot near $0. But I think it's pretty arbitrary to compare your results to theirs.

If you're looking for an inspiration, when i asked, ace said he made 8,000 in january. and im sure the e-pig team has made almost/ if not already 1,000,000 total so far, as their app is #1 or #2 in chile app store, it even beat angry birds.

While I understand that money makes the world go round, when it comes to games if money is your primary driving force, you will likely make a horrible piece of frankenstien nonsense.

The bottom line is that you should focus on making a great game that you yourself would want to play.

"If you build it, they will come" Unfortunately does not apply to the app store. What you make totally depends on the game, and it's quality, and what type of marketing you do. I've seen several people come and go with the expectation of making a million dollars because they saw a 14 year old make Bubble Ball on the news. This is definitely not a get rich quick scheme, it takes a whole lot of work. Some people make $8000 a month from a single app, but most make about $8 a month.

Make sure your game is polished, and smooth, and it will do well for you. How well is anyones guess, but I can tell you if you produce a sub standard game, the sales will directly reflect that.

I have been top one in 17 countries with epig dash free, but i havent make more than 8000 usd in all my apps life!

App store is more than difficult!

Even my new great game epig dive had make less than 400 usd.

But now i have a lot of clientes, and making some more apps Will make me make mote money faster.

    Cheers.

Have you been living under a rock ? :) this is as old news as the app store. ;)

I knew e-pig didn't make a million, but I expected it to be a little bit more than 8k for 3-4 solid games.

The market got pretty hard and saturated :( Thinking that fart apps used to make million and it seem pretty hard to make a salary out of gamesalad games even with good ones.

I know this might be a dumb dumb question but for example lets say i make an app for 99 cents and it sells 7000 copies in a month. How much would I get cuz idk how much apple takes exactly +- the other charges?
  • SlickZeroSlickZero Houston, TexasMember, Sous Chef Posts: 2,870
They take 30%. So lets say for my crappy math purposes you make $10,000 in a month. Apple will take $3000 from that.

so 7000 paid downloads is hard to get?
  • SlickZeroSlickZero Houston, TexasMember, Sous Chef Posts: 2,870
Pretty much, yeah. It would have to be almost the caliber of Tiny Wings, or Angry Birds to get downloads like that.

well you need a good game. Its not easy, but if you put a lot of time and effort into a game, then ask yourself "would I buy this?"

Basically, make a solid game and go from there. Not every good game gets good sales.

Its always best to be creative, but if you are talking in terms of themes, like right now its birds, was zombies but both of those are getting old now. But yah, lets say you make a second angry birds. Unless its BETTER than angry birds, no one will buy it because they will say why buy this when I can buy angry birds? Its always good to do something no one has done but its also ok to do something someone has done. Just be careful.

thanks because I have this idea about a slingshot game but its completely differnt then angry birds and I know theres a big hype over stuff like that so It can turn out good but i dont want people to say oh this is like angry birds just because of a darn slingshot.
  • DreamLabDreamLab Member Posts: 2,127
oh no slingshots are very common. When you think of copying game ideas it would be the whole game concept itself. Not just a slingshot. Your fine with that.
