The Future Of Gamesalad...

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Firstly I just wanted to say that Gamesalad has totally changed my life, what a great tool for people to develop games easily. I've been working in the games industry for over 10 years as a game designer and producer, and now I finally have my own future in my own hands - BUT...

Hypothetically speaking, what if Gendai Games was to be bought by another company? Would we still have access to Gamesalad?

****Disclaimer - I have heard nothing about a potential sale of Gendai, this is purely hypothetical so please do not get concerned *********

Its not that far fetched - Gendai has taken on Venture Capital money to expand, and when you have VC's on board they are always looking for an exit, either by public float on the stock exchange or by on-selling to another private company.

As someone who has put a good 6 months full time into Gamesalad, and pretty soon most of my livelihood, it would be good to know what assurances we have as Gamesalad Developers.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who may have similar concerns - And there are people on here who have put a lot more time and effort into Gamesalad than me.

So what are your thoughts? Is anyone else slightly worried about this? It'd be great if someone from Gendai could jump in here and share their thoughts about the future of Gamesalad and its consequences for its users if it is sold.

If GS were to go down, I would go over to corona. About a days worth of GS might be a week or 2 in lua. But its way better than taking a month to do simple stuff like xcode. Plus Im learning lua right now so I do have an alternative. Although I like Gs more as of now.

To me it's one of those things you shouldn't worry about. It's a business like any other, some companies come and go, some stay around for generations. If GameSalad closed it's doors and shut down tomorrow, I'd just move on to something else. Same thing as if Jack in the Box closed it's doors. I'd just go next door to Taco Bell. A lot of people are using GameSalad, I don't see it going anywhere in the immediate future. That's just me.

Gendai Games doesn't exist anymore. It's just GameSalad now. The company basically was funded and changed by Steamboat Ventures — the venture capitalist arm of Disney. I don't worry about a buyout because that's basically what happened already. Disney is big and their Interactive division needs to become profitable. A strong mobile presence is a good way to make that happen.

Game Maker was sold to YoyoGames, and it only helped it's growth.

If GameSalad was to be sold, I don't see how it could affect us in any bad way. Who would buy it to shut it down? GameSalad isn't the electric car of game design tools. :)
