I don't see the point of adding that box when loading between scenes

So lets say someone bought pro because they don't want people to know it is made form GS, but everyone will still know because of that box

So GS, please remove that box, or at least for pros

At least it's the iphone loading logo and not a little gamesalad face. But I wish we could customize it for our own loading icon.

I will not use GS if it is a GS logo

I love the way people think people associate the loading button with GS and most People haven't heard of GS.

    Cheers

I think it does serve a useful purpose. It lets the user know they have actually touched a button and the game is still working. Since most people don't necessarily associate that icon with just GameSalad, I don't have a problem with the scrolling wheel.

Yep people don't seem to realize only the review sites or other devs will even pick up on that and associating it with GameSalad.

I would love to customize it but not so I can disassociate myself from GameSalad. Just to make it fit my game better.

You will get rejected if that box is removed. It is requirement by apple to show some sort of indication that loading is going on.

Really? I tried Angry Birds light or whatever the free version was and it just showed a "Loading" picture. No status bar or anything--just a static, non-animating, solid picture.

some of indication that a load is happenieg. An image that says loading, is a indication that it is in fact loading, isnt it ? ;)

yeah I've got no problem with the laoding icon... I wish loading times would be shorter but thats a different issue...(and one that you can try and design around at times by building certain parts in the same scene)

    You got me there. :)

No, seriously, I mean, I didn't think apple required showing the "status" of the loading. I mean, sometimes a computer will show "Loading" when it's really frozen. Apple doesn't require a "Loading" animation, or loading bar, just a picture saying it's loading. So, in a scene, you could just spawn an image saying "Loading" in front of everything else.

it would be great to be able to have a "loading behavior" that gave us the % that the scene has already loaded. this way we could make loading bars, animations, etc, all based on the loaded %.
if not, at least be able to use our own loading icon.
also, would be great if the scene didn't "freeze" when loading. this way I could at least have a animated background while the loading happened.

Yep, support everything you just said.

For now I would just like to be able to at least position the loading wheel to where I want.

It seems as though there needs to be better loading management, not just a new loader icon or image. I often wonder why a scene has to load, then when you go to a new scene and back to another, why isn't the previous scene cached or something. I understand that GS removes the previous scene from the memory to load the new one in, but this could be done better. Also it makes no sense to load a pause scene, that should be loaded when the scene containing that functionality is loaded. Things that are reused from scene to scene shouldn't have to be reloaded when going from one to the other, GS should be smart about detecting those common assets. With the loader icon, I personally would prefer that it be center screen, rather then upper right corner. Maybe you allow us to choose its location. That might pace a band-aid on the larger issue.

    ill say this

back when i was testing 9.2 (think)
there was a bug where the loading circle was not there.
At first i thought OHH COOOLLL!

let me tell you it was not good. every time the scene changed i thought the game crashed because it just sat there tell the scene loaded.

tell we get faster scene changes we need the loading circle. With that said it would be nice if we can change the animation.

I agree there needs to be something there when loading a bunch of stuff. But it seems as though GS is reloading assets/actors that are in use in memory in the current scene, and reloading them when moving to the next scene. As an example, things like menu items/scenes should be small enough to store in memory and thus not need to have a loader when the user taps the pause button, then decides to go back to the level select screen. Those things should be seamless.

Lets take for instance, Cut the Rope holiday gift. When launched it loads up the menu. On the menu screen there are 2 main buttons, "Play" and "Options". when you click "Options" it doesn't need to load that content, its just there, part of the initial load. I know this is a native app, and there is more specific memory management that a dev has, and we get none :( in GS. But no one should have to sit through an initial load just to select an option, that then loads up another screen with options. Levels make sense to have a loader.

I know we could be tricky and just lay out our two scenes on or in one scene, then animate between those sections, all in one scene. But that seems like a work around.

These are all just thoughts/suggestions ;)

    Thanks

but why can't we even choose are own icon?
or at least something like a bar so we can choose?

I would LOVE if they gave us an option to remove the black background of the icon. Keep the spinning wheel, just remove the black backing ! :) A very simple change that would help it fit in a bit better.

    Also maybe allow different positioning?

Wait..the loading icon always appears at the BOTTOM right corner for me. At first I thought it was a bug and sent a bug report to GS, but it got rejected.

If they put the loading spinner in the center it would be more consistent, and less oddly asymmetrical and un-Apple-ish. Also we could at least use it as the letter "O" in an image of the word "LOADING". Just a thought.

I have notice depending on the device and you orientation lock setting it will appear in different corners.

I agree, the loading indicator is very annoying, i wish we could customise it, or even if not that just add a section where we can choose the loading icon :)

    Cheers

I'm closing this, the discussion is 3 months old, and without the loading box your apps will get rejected for not showing a loading indicator.

it would be nice to customize the feature, but there are so many more important things to work on first.
