How big would you expect the images folder to be after publishing with RI?

Something doesn't seem right.

I have retina sized images and (pre-publishing) the images folder (when inspecting the package contents of the game project) is 10mb.

So after publishing an ad hoc with RI ticked I should expect the images folder to be around 12.5mb, right?

But post-publishing the images folder is 20.4 mb. So now the game goes over 20mb which I was trying to avoid.

I don't get it. Does anyone else understand it?

Anyone noticed the % of MB their images folder increases after publishing with RI?

It's definitely odd that it would double like that. I've been having issues with RI too (supposedly fixed in the next release). Although my issue is that GS is creating the down-sampled images but is not using them at all on the older devices.

I would dig around in the .app file, it's basically a zipped up file. The images with names that look like image@2x.png (or something like that) are the originals and the non appended names are the half sized ones. If they're same file size, then it would appear that RI isn't working.

@Dizko How can you test if the old devices are using them? The downsized images get created when you publish a game, so you can't test them in the Viewer?

I had a look at each downsized image size compared to the @2x.png originals. Yeah, the file sizes are sometimes only 10% (or sometimes 0%) smaller than the original retina sized images.

They'd be much smaller if I manually made the downsized images in photoshop. But I don't think we can replace them post-publishing. Only tried it once but when i used a png reducer post publishing and tried to drag the gamefile into itunes it wouldn't let me saying the file had been altered.
