Is iOS really the best place to try new and wild ideas?

When it comes to prototyping or releasing a new game with a neat and new game mechanic is t iOS really the best place to experiment? Personally I think it is a good place. But part of me wants to say that a free to play flash game is better for a something really experimental. Also would taking your experimental game to a exhibition be a better idea than releasing it on iOS. iOS publishing is so easy and personally its a great way to get exposure and sales (potentially).

I believe it's an incredible medium to try new and innovative things on. Check out my game PixYPHUS. It's an art piece, but also a game. I've gotten some interesting and hateful feedback from it, but I've also made some cash and made something that didn't and wouldn't have existed on the app store if it weren't for me.

Here's a quick link to the game:

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pixyphus/id427436816?mt=8

There's an iPad version available, too.

Be bold, be brave. Angry Birds is great, but we only need so many clones for a single platform.

Well... I really don't think so...

The AppStore is still a minority compared to all those flash games/players. And, it is also harder to shine. So, why I'm on iOS development? I don't know..

    Flash is bigger and I think kinda easier if you have a good/unique game. Because the system with flash is;

    -You develop the game.
-You send it over to few website where huge sponsors check every game.
-They bid on your game and get you a deal.

So, it's almost certain if you have a great game, you'll earn good amount of money. I'm talking about $20.000 - $40.000. But, for most cases, that is it.

You don't have a chance to earn s much more, you don't have a chance to market your own "thing" etc. I think I like this stuff more..

And yeah, there is the actionscript part also..

Flash games are good for experimenting, but it's actually more work than making a GameSalad game. While iphone is good to play on the bus, it's games are bought on impulse, so it's good to have some new experience to offer that you want to buy and not just a time waster.

Flash games developpers are closer to the indie community but often goes in the direction of humor(newgrounds) or coffee break minigames(miniclip). I say that because the most innovative games are on PC for this reason; the indie developpers take more risk experimenting new stuff.

While flash games gets more people to play them, they are not promoted in trailer videos, and this is where experimental games pick our curiosity.

I think the iphone is an interresting device to experiment gameplays, and GameSalad is a great tool when it comes to physic games which is not fully exploited.

Entersimon, I just played your game. Great job!

I hear that GS web deployment is about to get a whole lot better. Once it does that will be a great thing to compete with flash.

Very very true... when/if they improve the web depolyment offerings it really could do great things. I'm looking forward to have web versions of my games for free so people may decide to buy it have it on their iphones for ease...

I hope there is ad based revenue for developers on it. I think they are trying make this possible in some way. Even if it is not monitized it will be good for exposure.
