TOTB3 - Outasite

My Turn. Alright I feel left out. I've known the theme (subconsciously) since 36 hours before the theme was released, and was there when stormy announced it. Thing is, I haven't started a thread because I didn't want to start without a pic of some sort... for you guys. So here you go.

Before the competition, I spent the day with my 2 year old nephew, and had Dr. Suess on my mind. I drew this...

Someone was trying to tell me something.

Decided that I am going to do a mash up. Ocean and Dr. Seuss. No I am not going to steal his ideas, but I am going to steal his thoughts (not the word I was looking for). In all of his stories, he made it fun for kids to learn and read. Every story had a moral. So my games will to from now on.

My moral for this game: Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.

Yes, this is also a hint towards the gameplay. I think I am going to take Photics approach to game logs for the first few days. I can't have everyone feeding off of my AMAZING thoughts.. hah

BTW.. guys this competition is mine.
It ends on my birthday (July 9th)

    I started the pseudo code, and well. I didn't realize this game was going to take so many rules and constrains. Can't wait for my iPhone that should be in the mail tomorrow for testing.

    I am also working on a rough draft for the story. Thinking of doing a game/book for it. Hah

    Alright Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I've been incredibly busy. My brother and I are working on starting our own foundation.

    But, I WILL finish this thing! I promise, or at least I will post what I have. I havent touched my story line since I last posted. But here is some work I did last night once I got home from the pool.

    Alright here is my first video update. posted some art yesterday for you guys.

    Just some basic movement. On the computer keys will be left / right / up and space for shoot.
    On the iPod and iPhone accelerometer / jump button / shoot button

    I'm going to make I platforms jump through I think.

    hah thanks. At first I thought you were talking about my black background in the video... But then I remembered I posted some art.

    I still thinking about how to do it with my platforms.
    I was thinking of doing it on a coral shelf. Kind of like in nemo just before he was taken. But I don't know yet. (and I kind of don't really know how to draw it hah)

    Thanks guys. Finished the jump through platforms last night. Uploading video to you tube, right now. Hopefully when I get home tonight from work I will be able to work on the enemy coding a bit. I hope to post some more art too.

    Alrighty the jump through video is ready. I tried for a long time to do this "right" but, I don't know what I was thinking. Then I remember TSB's vid on jump through (I hope tutorials are not "not allowed" in the competition hah).

    Alrighty, did some work on the art and gameplay today at work during lunch. I think I've found my art style for the game really liking it.

    And then I took a picture on my iPhone and colored it un with Layers. LOVE that app.

    I was thinking of how to give my some real playability, and re-playability. For me, I LOVE games where the user has to level up and upgrade (like RPG's I guess). And since my game is more a endless type I had to think what to do. I decided to go with my own advice and make a upgrade system.

    Upgrades:
    -Lives
    -Shot Rate
    -Bubble Speed
    -Move Speed
    -Jump Height
    -Bubble Life

    Alright well I can't give you guys any pictures, for now until the image things fixed. I just realized today is the first, and I only have 7 days left before I have to submit. Leaving the 8th for my birthday on the 9th. This is going to be a interesting week.

    A lot to do... and no time to do it. It sucks having to pay all the bills. Hah, I want daddy back.

    Menu... I not too happy with it, but time is really starting to dwindle away, and I still have mountains of bills I need to make money for hah.



    Hopefully, I will start working on some artwork, so we can really see some progress in the game... I Still dont really know what I want to use for the platforms.

    Have the upgrade system working. A few little kinks left (but then again they are everywhere). Decided to save the little things for last. Time is running out fast. Thank the gods for holiday weekends.

    OH MY! I AM RACING TO THE FINISH LINE.
    I don't know how polished the art and sound will be. So much to do, so little time. AND I still have work, growing up sucks, hah. I never knew how mad the electric bill was... (I live in AZ 116 degrees the other day).

    Heres a vid, for a quick update on some art. Still no idea for the main character, platforms, or game name.



    Also, my thread seems to be a little bare. Can I have some comments. Criticism is welcome.

    I'm looking forward to see this on saturday afternoon. Its a bit difficult to get a sense of the whole yet, but it's looking like a game. Love the bandaid on the menu and look forward to more of similar nature throughout. Good luck and keep those candles burning booth ends (or perhaps you are more organised than I am and am getting some sleep and don't need to...)

    COMMENTS !! YAY! hah, I guess the key to comments are the art. Shucks should of done that earlier.

    As far as sleep goes, I'm afraid I do not know the meaning.
    7:50 wake up / 8:30-4:00 work at a desk drafting / 4:30-6:30 commissioned work / cook & eat dinner / 7:30-10:30 commissioned work / shower / 11:00-2:30 TOTB3

    Its fun, but that Pro Membership is quite persuasive. I'll try to get some more art down for you guys to see and comment on, and so that I can finish the game.

    Aww... time is getting to me, hah.

    Added achievements today.
    The art really isn't popping out for me, and It doesn't seem consistant. Almost done. Just sounds and a few more images. Wish there was time to redo the art. All well looks like I'll have to win with what I have.

    Looks like what ever I can cram into the next 4-5 hours will be my submission. Its a shame I couldn't win with a better build... HAH

    EDIT: Needless to say be on the lookout for a video within a few hours or so, and hopefully it will be up on arcade.

    Alright a bit of a change for the competition, it is not a iphone game, but rather a arcade game. I love the controls on computer, but accelerometer is giving me issues (too hard hah)

    OH MAN !! I Still need sound, hah.
