    Raising the bar for myself...
I'd like my game to be truly unique for the iPhone format. Something that couldn't be done in video games before...

The ocean can have many moods, from tranquil and calm to turbulent and powerful. I think I will choose the latter tone for my game... fast, furious, with a little edge to it. I will aim to excite!

To get that edge... I've selected a shark for my main character... Fierce!
To get that "something that couldn't be done in video games before..." I've got a theory I need to prove out.

Here is an image of the shark...
    [IMG]image

There will be a special way you can control him with multitouch... something that really gets you into character.

    Didn't work.

If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong for posting images, please feel free to help. Thank you.

I thought the problem was that I posted from tinypic (new site for me)... However, this time I've used photobucket exactly as I did a few days before with success... confused??? :(

I asked the same question (about the images). tenrdrmer said GS was changing something in the backend, and messed it up. they are working on a fix.

Your code is actually not exactly correct.

    <img src="http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc510/CircleTimePhotos/ChompScreen.jpg"/>

But its still not working right now. :)

    @ outasite & tenrdrmer
Thank you for the info. I'm excited about my last image and am looking forward to having it visible.

Also, my shark has a name... "Chomp!"
The object of the game is to guide Chomp the shark on a feeding frenzy!

    <<<Early Preview>>>

My goal was to create a game that couldn’t really be produced before… before say the iPhone era. Therefore, the gameplay centers around multitouch… which (arguably) the iPhone gave mainstream exposure to… yet is still quite unexploited in gameplay. This game uses pinching as core to the gameplay… The object of the game is to pinch to open and close CHOMP’s jaws as you eat fish and avoid jelly fish.

Here is an early gameplay video:

    Orange: the Shark
Pink: the fish – you eat these
Purple: the jelly fish – you avoid these (keep mouth closed)
Green: how many fish are in your mouth (max 3 before you have to swallow)
Red: visible when your jaws are open – visible now for programming purposes.

As the graphics are not imported… it may be hard for you to imagine the jaws opening and closing at this point (symbolized by a red bar for “open.”) However, I couldn’t resist showing this early preview. Enjoy!

I’ve put some place holder graphics with code… (final sea creatures are very animated)

    Pinch to CHOMP!

Pink = yummy fish – eat these!
Purple = dangerous jelly fish – avoid!

3 fish in mouth max before needing to swallow. More points for swallowing with fuller mouth.

Playing finished game on my iPhone! Well is any game ever really finished??? I think I may be expanding on this one after the contest. It's 4:00am my time so I'm off to bed... I'll try and post a video before work starts in a few hours.

I got some sleep... @old_kipper, thanks for the good luck... Heading out on a trip... So, here it goes!!!

    Game copy:

    Introducing Chomp!
    Eat fish - Good!
    Avoid jellyfish - Bad!

Multi-touch pinching action opens and closes Chomp’s jaws. Open mouth to let fish in. Shut mouth to keep jellyfish out. Catch up to three fish in mouth before closing and swallowing. More fish swallowed at once = more points. How many fish can you eat?

    Rational:

Chomp takes multi-touch pinching to the extreme. My out of the box goal was to create a game that generally couldn’t be produced before the iPhone era. Arguably, the iPhone gave mainstream exposure to multi-touch. Therefore, I used a multi-touch pinching interface as the foundation for Chomp. My hope is Chomp will do for multi-touch pinching what Fruit Ninja did for swiping. Enjoy!
