Should I worry about GS bugs?

Hello everyone,

Few weeks ago, I was ready to download GS. I believe it was 0.9.3 and I saw a lot of people having problems and some bugs of that release. So have most the issues been fixed?

I saw a thread for 0.9.4, however the download still says 0.9.3?????

Thank you.

Even if you download 9.3 upon running it, it'll ask you to update to 9.4.

Yes, 0.94 fixed virtually all the issues introduced by the prior update. GS still isn't perfectly stable - there are memory leaks that you'll experience after using it for ages and multiple other issues. But overall, despite being still in beta this software is more reliable than a lot of 1.0s.

I haven't had any problems with 0.9.4 at all. I'd go for it.

Apart from the no audio playback in sound files. But I think that's rare. That's why I can't wait till the next update with Masalsa seen as it's already in beta....

I thought the memory leak had been fixed? So we have to restart GS every 10 minutes still????

I don't know how you folks are finishing games with the no sound bug. Or is it just me and some other folks? Should I delete and reinstall? Are there any hidden pref files I should know about if I do this?

Here's the thing that I don't understand about your question.

    GameSalad is free!!!!!

What do you stand to lose by downloading now?

I can think of what you have to lose by not. Time. Everyday you don't download and start using it is one more day that you have lost learning the tool. That means one more day your down before you can legitimately start working on a project you plan to publish.

Still don't see the downside to getting the free version now.

    ;)

Yeah, that part of the equation puzzles me to no end when people ask if they should download a free tool that has the potential to earn them money. Seems like a no brainer to me.

It really is good software, since I started a few months back I have got the Pro not to long ago and have not regretted it. You cant beat free, and it sold it self to me )

Well, if you go back to the 0.9.3 (I saw some of the threats, there were many bugs that I personally wouldn't download even for FREE). Free doesn't mean that you would like to crash your software. Memory leak is not a good thing for sure.

understandable. recently ive been having some trouble with 0.9.4 slowing down to crawl again..but it was smooth for a while, it could be just my project as i havent really seen many others mention it. no where near the chaos of 0.9.3 so feel free to get started

The major issues with 0.9.3 where with working with a project that was created before 0.9.3

And yes I think if there are 1000's of people making Games then why would you be so scared to try it. Do you have some better way of producing iOS apps. If so why bother looking into GameSalad.

wow.....I really hope that you don't work for GS. I am sure GS will never respond with that kinda response. To answer to your last question, YES, there are some other engines you can use. To say BETTER? it really depends how you look at it and what goals you want to achieve.

what kinda response? hes completly right. The time you took to make this thread could be used exploring the gamesalad creator. Its not like you have anything to loose trying it out

No I don't work for them. Its Really irrelevant though. Cause while your on the fence worried if having to restart the software every 10 mins (which you don't have to do anymore) is worth the time saved to use drag and drop instead of Learning to code and then actually coding the game. I will have published several apps in that same time frame of your back and forth fear of wasting time trying something you are already wasting your time not trying.

Sorry you took the initial response wrong. just trying to give you a shove in the right direction. I really hope your not going to be another one of these people who think because its Drag and Drop its a piece of cake and Making Great Games is now an easy thing.

    You will be sorely disappointed.

In my opinion, I am not wasting my time asking some of the members experience about GS and it's bugs. To me, it's part of my research. I have been trying several other engines and GS is the next in my list, but the time I was ready, there were so many thing going on.

Don't be sorry, sometimes that's how it is in forum (miscommunication). Thanks for the shove to get me in the right direction. And don't worry about me thinking about Drag and Drop is a piece of cake. My background is Embedded Software Development and I deal with C/C++ all the time. I know what I am getting into. Drag and Drop is basically the language and a lot of people misinterpreted it.
