Am I the only one who has no sound after update 9.3 ???

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Hi,

Version 9.4 has come along and now a new update.
My sound still does not work.
Still, all my sound files changed since the 9.3 update in: com-XXXXX (XXX are Several different numbers).

I've tried mp3 and other file formats, but still no sound. I've updated my macbook, nothing. Sounds like I just play on my mac book is doing great.

Can someone help me, because waiting for another update (if this is the problem, I hardly think) took so long ...

I am the only one here with a sound problem? Please let me know.
Thanks!

Nope. Got that problem, too. I have since 9.3, too. I can't believe the chefs are not even responding to this problem at all, not to mention no fix in two updates. I can't even think about finishing my game, or even entering the contest without sound. Really annoying, and I know we aren't the only two people with this issue.

I also have had this problem since 9.3, i don't mind publishing an ad hoc every now and then but it can be a pain if i'm honest

    Hey guys,

The workaround for this issue was posted here:

    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=23983

The nature of the bug fix we introduced in 0.9.4 was that it would prevent future projects from having corrupted sound or image files. That means you'll still have to perform the workaround in order to repair your project.

Please follow the steps listed in "0.9.3. Corrupted Assets". If you're still having this issue after performing the workaround, or if you are finding this problem happening in newly created projects, please submit your game to us. That way we can review your project to see what the problem is. Use BUGS at GameSalad dot com.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you guys.

I have also been having this issue since 9.3 I get no audio in the creator but I do on the viewer.
  • JPickardJPickard Member Posts: 477
with 0.9.5 I created a brand new project, at total defaults. created a blank white square actor, imported via the plus button a brand new .ogg sound file (which didn't play in the audio well with the little arrow) and created a default rule when all conditions conditions are valid: actor receives event: touch is pressed: play sound: sound.ogg and left everything default.

    Still nothing.

    Game salad friends,

I send a game.proj of my project to the technical chefs.
Maybe they find out what the problem is.
    I'll let you all know.

I want to let everyone know (who also has this sound problem), what the problem could be.

This is what I get in my mailbox after sending my GS game.proj project.

    ****************
    Hello,

Unfortunately I am not seeing the issue in the project you sent me. All three audio files included in your project are playing in the preview player, GS viewer, and on ad hoc builds.

    Some questions:
Are you unable to hear the audio files anywhere in your project?
Have you tried adding these sound files to new projects?
Do you know the origin of these sound files? Were they converted to .ogg files prior to being included in the project?

    *****************
AFTER answer all the questions to Mike, I get this mail:

    *****************
Could you please provide the specs of your mac book pro? If you are unable to hear the sound files at all when running GS, we might have a compatibility bug on our hand.

    *****************
    I have send my specs.
Send your specs of your mac to me and I'll mail it to GS, maybe they can fix the bug, if it is a compatibility problem. The more info they have, the better the problem can be fixed.

    I'll keep you informed
    Thanks.

I also still have the issue. Lucky for me though I all the audio works fine on the mac downstairs. So when I work on sound I plug in my portable hard drive :D
  • JPickardJPickard Member Posts: 477
    olster, what computer doesn't work?

I'm already seeing a pattern here with core duo vs. core 2 duo. Arghhh. I hope that's not it, because I absolutely cannot afford a new computer in the near future. (and sound USED to work before the last 3 updates).

This is the Mac that DOESN'T work.

Yep, certainly seems like an inter core duo problem.

The one that does work is one of the new ones.
  • JPickardJPickard Member Posts: 477
Yep, so they are all intel core duo, not core 2 duo. The same limitation placed on upgrading to Lion, and FinalCut X....

Sigh. I thought I was more future-proofed waiting for the intel switch, but I knew this day was coming sometime...

    nooooooooooooo
  • JPickardJPickard Member Posts: 477
Well, confirmed: I just tested on a Mac Mini that has the exact specs as mine except a core 2 duo, and sound worked fine running the exact same test as above made in both the 0.9.4 and after updating to 0.9.5.

Core Duo, is definately at least PART of the issue.

Hopefully game salad don't just leave us behind. As you said, a lot of us can't afford a new computer.
  • JPickardJPickard Member Posts: 477
So. How do we get the devs to check this out?
  • JolandaJolanda Member Posts: 82
    Hi everyone,

    Finally I have a solution...hopefully :)
If not, response here, so I can send all the replays to the "technical staff contact" in my mailbox.

Here is the last replay from them:

Neither do I. I was hoping for an update.
But my sounds are still not working.

    I will contact them again.

It was a "computer generated" answer, I had received same answer, about other problem.

    Cool. Keep us updated. Thanks.

I had contact the last minutes this what I get in the mailbox:

    ****************
We haven't released any official patch yet for 0.9.5 – the e-mail you got was from a bug in our customer support database where tickets were getting jammed.

Unfortunately due to a really hefty schedule over here, we're still swimming around in a lot of different bugs to get knocked out.

If you don't mind, I'd like for you to revisit your console messages. The previous e-mail you sent contained nearly three days worth of console messages, which is a bit too difficult for us to decipher. Basically, I'm looking for any console messages that come up when you attempt to play a sound and nothing happens. If none come up when the sound fails to play, that is also helpful to know.

Just to note, I am also monitoring the specific thread you mention. I'm actively collecting data from it, so you don't need to forward any responses from people there.
    **************

So if anyone would like to say, say it here, Mike the technical man is monitoring this post!
  • JolandaJolanda Member Posts: 82
It looks like a compatibility problem with older Mac books, they do not know if they can fix it or not, but they will do their best for the next update. They can not promise anything...

Sorry if I have no better news, GS has done their best so far...

It seems I would buy a new mac book...
I do not want to wait, whether or not it can be made, that's really too long for me.

    Good luck everybody.

    Hey guys,

Dropping by to provide a quick update:

    1) We've identified and isolated the issue over here. It is indeed a compatibility bug as stated above.
    2) We are working to resolve the problem, but I cannot give you an accurate estimate on when the fix will be in. I can only assure you that it is on the top of our list of things to resolve.
