the way GS compiles games?

Just saw the HTML5 update and was excited. But that didn't last long.

Why does GameSalad compile the games from their server? Why not just have it so they can be compiled through the app on their on Mac?

I have been watching GameSalad for some time now and have fiddled with it but it has not gone beyond that for the above reason. I have no issues of writing my own code for games but thought it would be nice to use GameSalad to get games done faster then writing code.

Anyway, my only request for this app is that games can be compiled and saved all on the users machine.

I think this is very much to do with creating a situation where Gendai are still able to control things in a manner that will allow them to potentially make money from GS. Part of their model for doing so became more obvious yesterday with the appearance of html5 publishing hosted on their server.

I hope it's not a control thing and just something they haven't incorporated into the app yet. Although, I don't know why they would not of in the first place.

It's a bad decision on their part... a form of copy protection and a way to promote the GameSalad arcade... but I think it actually damages the GameSalad brand, as the software would be more useful for professionals if it could straight-export to HTML 5 and Xcode.

That's kind of sad as I'm sure most users would have posted on it anyway. Being that mostly everyone likes to promote their games. I think the user/creator should have more control on what they want to do with their creations. It would have been nice anyway.

It's almost like Apples, we'll sell you an iPad but we don't want you running flash on it.

I would like to see it in both. Even if they charge $25 for the liter version. Similar to what GameMaker charges. Their company does fine and has a huge following. I think GameSalad could do the same and benefit from it.
