Why unneccesarily block access?

I am currently using leopard (not snow) I have no reason to currently update.
Right now I want to play around with the Gamesalad client to see if it's right for me. Why would I pay 30 bucks just to see if I like an application? I don't plan on trying to export anything so I should have no problems running the program. I can understand having the minimum version warning and even setting the minimum OS to snow to stop newbs from complaining why it won't export right. However even after I went into the plist and changed the minimum OS it still wouldn't load.
Is their a good technical reason for this or is it just not wanting to have to deal with the headache? I would appreciate if someone knew of a potential workaround.

and watching everything there. You'll get a really good idea if the program is right for you plus if you get good and make some fun games then you can easily make back your investment in game sales.

and its only $30, I'm still shocked when people say they don't want to upgrade.
