Hi everyone, I'm just going to throw this one into the mix and see what everyone thinks!

I've been on GS for a couple of weeks now and loving the challenge of creating my first app game, but it seems to be we are suddenly in a golden age again where solo creatives can produce and release games onto the world stage.

It reminds me very much of the 80's when bedrooms coders (on the ZX Spectrum) here in the UK could produce games and do very well for themselves. But alas times changed, technology progressed and game creation moved from the individual bedroom programmer to larger companies with many staff.

So, I'm wondering if our days are numbered. Technology always strides forwards and the big boys are already developing and doing very well with iphone games. Will a time come when the individual can't compete against the might of the big players once more?

Personally, I'm cracking on with my first app effort - and reckon we should be making the most of this great time in game development while it last!

What do you guys think?...

I think the the world of the indie dev will continue as the distribution is now possible for the solo or small developer. Also there will always be a market for the those that can move fast without the overhead of a larger business, have a good idea they can realise within the constraints of the indie life, or just a killer idea and/or talent. Big business will try to turn a buck at every corner, and this will alway squeeze the indie, but when an indie has a great product they will have something that will allow him to make a mark. It may not be easy, but I think it is a time of hope.

Hopefully GameSalad will get some function and performance improvements, but I think the mobile market is up for at least a few years. The casual gamers learned to love games this way, so there is just more and more customers. As long as we get them great new games to play so they don't get bored :)

But yeah, the gold rush is over and the appstore is getting pretty much overloaded... GameSalad is a few years too late, but I think it has a bright futur. At least there is few chances that the first person shooters and sport games take over since they are so poorly played on mobile devices. This is giving a second breath to 2d games, which are actually getting back into the game. They just don't get old as quick as 3d games.

There are 350 000 apps in the store, that may seem like a lot of apps. But there are 13 million songs on itunes and 27 million books on amazon. With those figures the appstore is awesome.

One thing that I really want Gendai games to do is whenever a new platform comes out is to have game salad be able to export to it. Being on new marketplaces is great for your games.
