How reliable is Inkscape?

I heard about this free illustrating program called Inkscape. But I'm not sure where to grab a copy that doesn't have a risk of messing with my computer. Can I get some quick, 5-sentence reviews? And also a link, please? Thanks.

    its perfectly fine tons of people use it, i did before i got illustrator

    The only (reliability) problems (I know of) lay between computer monitor and chair ;-)
