"What's the point of these spam posts lately? Are these just automated bots? Or are they people and if so why are they doing it, what do they get out of it? Can some enlighten me?

Well I disagree tenrdrmer, I think it is relevant because it is becoming a problem. We have seen a huge spike recently in spam for all different rubbish. It is noticeable, I see at least 1 spam post every day, when I used to only see about 1 weekly!
I think the biggest problem is the new GS Arcade. I like the arcade but spamsters and fraudsters search for these types of arcades all the time. Plus were now getting HTML5 backlinks from all different websites and facebook etc which is going to increase spam.
Spam is nobodies fault but it can help be prevented. Why not human verify accounts and wait say 24 hours before people can post or disable links for new members etc?
To say "that's all" as if there is nothing we can do is a bit annoying. This is a great community and we should work hard to keep it that way. :-)
Thank you very much AddictiveGames. I'm glad someone else saw how tenrdrmer just completely shut me down and didn't even let me respond when all I was trying to do is start a meaningful conversation about the spamming problem we've been having.
But yet I guess he thinks Justin Beiber is of more use to the community than talking about malicious people trying to mess up our forum.
Theres tons of spam all week on the forum, it just gets deleted quick enough so hardly anyone ever sees it. Since the update all users ip address appear the same, so the user cant get banned right now, hence the increase in spam.
Just like the other post this one is pointless.

Well Actually there is nothing WE can do. If GameSalad want to do something about it, and can, then they will. But I can tell you I have personally tried many times to get them to make things even slightly stricter for certain things, and they really seem to have no interest in it.
So All that can be done from anyone in the community is sous chefs delete the posts as they come in. If they get the IP issue fixed we can ban their IP.
It could also be argued that issues they are having with the IP addresses have allowed them to gain access again. They may have been banned in the past.
Spam is a part of life online and we do what we can but threads about how much span sucks and requests for explanations of the spam don't benefit this forum. It just adds another thread that pushes someone request for help or useful information off the main page.

I was just recently made a sous chef. If had the ability then I would have closed it. Lets not be ridiculous and bring things back from 6 months ago I have no doubt now someone will post to that thread and push yet another useful thread off the main page. Congrats on Jamming the forum slightly more.
Its an automated spam bot, GS has a high page rank so thats why its getting spam lately.
The only way to block it is to increase its sign up security by giving a question like "whats the name of this site", "whats 1 + 1" anything but a captcha. Simple fix really
