Adhoc App testing - can the files be sent and used via itunes on Windows

Good afternoon
I've finally created the .app file for my first proper creation. Annoyingly my iphone is currently in use playing waves sounds to my new baby daughter and she is finally sleeping after a good hour of crying, so I can't use it to test it right now.
I did however create an Adhoc version of the add with the needed distribution profile. I've tried putting the app on onto my wifes ipod touch, via her windows vista machine (I know it makes me sick too) I've tried putting the two files (app and profile) into itunes but it does not like it. The profile possibly goes in. (possibly no sign of anything happening) The app file turns into a folder when viewed on windows.
Any ideas....otherwise I may have to wake the sleeping lamb.

`Copy the .app folder into a folder called Payload. Once you get the .app folder into the Payload folder, just compress it with .zip extension using any compression software. Once compressed , just change the extension from XXX.zip to XXX.ipa. Thats it.`
Also, verify that the profile is in your wife's iPod touch by going into the General Settings and seeing if it's there.
(on my iphone.... my daughter sneezed so it seemed only fair to steal my phone back.. )
and my app works....and works pretty well too....apart from two buttons where the target area is a bit small....and as I suspected the audio is a bit ropey.
any ideas?
