Scaling actors when placing them in the scene

I have a newb question: Is there a way to scale a thin actor in the scene (by manually using the mouse in the editor when placing it, not in "code/script") without it instantly defaulting to a minimum thickness? I have some very skinny platforms and when I grab a corner to manipulate it, it suddenly gets thicker. What am I missing? Also anyway to zoom the editor view in? Thanks! :)

One way to scale it down is by selecting the corner of an actor and holding shift while dragging the mouse and that will make it thinner than the standard.

Another is to manually go into the actors width and hight settings and putting in the size you'd like it to be.

When I hold Shift it gets uniformly smaller, but I'm trying to get it thinner on 1 axis. Sorry, I was a bit vague. :) I was using the actor Size for this but in my platformer level, it was much easier to place the individual platforms by hand and scale the size to fit the jumping puzzles. Even if I make it thin in the Actor Scale, as soon as I grab the corner of the actor with the mouse, it makes it fat again. (if that makes sense)

you will just have to guess and check in the actor. to zoom hold control and use two fingers to zoom in and out
