Advanced particle usage = Problems

I am trying to make a cool laser effect. I used a picture of a long blurry red oval as for the particles.

I used "spawn actors" for each little particle, but that slowed down my game. i am trying to recreate it using "particles". But the "size" tab has only one field, and it reduces the image to an ugly square. Any way to control proper size for particles? l (with two fields for width and height.)

    You have to use an alpha channeled image within a square image to get your image to display correctly. There is a lot of cool effect you can do with scale, colour change, alpha fades and blending mode (try additive as well as normal). Use a fairly small image for the source, a short time for the life of the particle and a fast speed or you will get a bendy lazer if you are moving it about....

    p.s. try using a white image and colouring it with the colour effects and you will find it more flexible.
