Clarity on "Jobs" versus "Marketplace"

I wanted to get clarity on what the "Jobs" section is for, versus the "Marketplace" since a thread of mine was moved. They seem a bit redundant.

My understanding is that the "Marketplace" is for selling items like graphics packs, templates, backgrounds, art assets, sound, and music, or any type of services that are tangible.

Jobs, from my understanding, is so an artist, or anyone can post a "general" topic that they're seeking work, whether it's doing graphics, working on a project with someone etc.

Jobs can also be for programmers seeking graphics artists or talent to help them with their project.

Can we get some clarity on this so posts aren't moved, and it's crystal clear to everyone?

ie: I made a post about a graphics artist of mine that is seeking additional paid, "work" I figured that would go under the "jobs" section. He's not selling graphics packs, music, or tangible items, he's looking for work.

Thank you!

I Used to think the same, but then I really thought about it and my interpretation after looking at the description next to the sections tells me Jobs is where people Post looking to hire someone. ie. Posting a job.

And anyone threads advertising any service (artist, Programing, Project Help, Etc…) Or Products (Art, Templates, Sounds, Macs (Yes there was one listed in there, Etc…) Belong in the marketplace.

The point is to keep the Give me money for something posts out of the main page threads, So that only those considering spending money have to see the posts asking for money. And everyone with no interest in spending doesn't have to see them.

On the other hand. If someone needs to hire. They need the exposure and who better than another GS user to do the work? Therefore they should get the Help WAnted listings Loaded into the main page for the most exposure.

I know the "Hire me" threads have been listed in both places in the past. I have personally move a ton of "hire me" posts out of the job section in the last week. I was asked to help moderate so i'm doing so. I'll certainly stop moving them If GameSalad wishes they not be there but I believe they will agree. And honestly whats the difference in my project help thread and an artist offer work. I guarantee you it would be moved to the marketplace if I had it in the main page.

    tenrdrmer... cleaning up the streets.

After he moved my thread though, I do agree.

Job post - I have a job, looking to fill

    Marketplace - I have G&S, looking for sale/ work-for-hire

I remember in the roadmap they had GS Marketplace as an up-and-coming thing. So I'm sure that will change everything again.

Yes the actual marketplace is still being worked on. I am really looking forward to it. Since it will fully remove marketplace type threads from the forum all together.

OK....my 2 cents: what we should have is a new Job forum that's split in two. ex: "looking for work" (what I can do for you) and "looking for workers" (need help with my project) ...like what deviantArt has.

the Marketplace should ONLY have items ready to sell (templates, premade graphics, music...etc.)

    its like this:
I'm selling my bike - so it should go into the marketplace

I need some one to repair my bike - so i look in to the Jobs/Looking for workers

I need some one to make me a bike - so i look in to the Jobs/Looking for work

The thing is that I've gone through the "jobs" category, and there are still posts in there for artists looking for work, so I think it just needs to be more cut and dry.

I agree with sdsmith and think that's the best solution is to split up the jobs area for "Seeking" vs "hiring" then it would make a bit more sense.

My view of the marketplace is you're selling tangible goods to people like graphics packs, music packs, templates etc.

Jobs is a "general" category for people both seeking work and hiring.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! :)

You must have gone back a Page or two. It does seem like every time I open theres another one I have missed but I move everyone of them I see. Especially when they move up to the top of the main page. Im not gonna go back through all the threads that are several months old move them over. I'll just do it as they come up. Hopefully other moderators will pitch in.

I've emailed Yodapollo and asked him to decide how he wants it done. I don't think anything that costs money should ever show in the main forum thought so really there needs to be a Products and services section of the market if you want them separate. But the Marketplace description as is right now lists services as one of the items that belong there.

Like I said I will glad do what ever yodapollo tells me on this. So hopefully he gets back to us sooon.

Yeah, thanks for the feedback again! As long as it's clear, because I *assumed* myself that the jobs section was for posting both seeking and looking, but if it's the other way, I don't have an issue, as long as it's across the board.

Regarding the jobs thing, I did go a few pages back so no worries :)
